A little nugget from Socrates

The unexamined life is not worth living.

True, but too much examination can keep you from actually living.

Here’s my favorite critique of a philosophical proposition:

“What does not kill me, makes me stronger!”

Yeah: but if it DOES kill you, then you’re dead!

Lol. Interesting point. I suppose one counter to that would be if you’re arms, legs, eyes and larnyx are removed then you don’t feel so strong. lol

I’ve always hated that one, and time heals all wounds. Such simple words are asserted by even simpler people who have never had a terrible thing happen to them. Or they’re just fucking liars who don’t give a shit about what you’re going through. I suppose both could be true. Bless their hearts! :joy:

lol. I agree. Right now I’m in a mental place where I’ve been re-opening an old wound from a bad break up 20 years ago in an effort to heal it. I know it sounds stupid but everyone has their old wounds in life and I’m no different. I’m finally experiencing the emotions I should have experienced then but was too stupid to know how to deal with it so instead I let my exGF put the guilt on me. I’ve carried that guilt for for 20 years. So, I say all that to affirm time does not heal all wounds lol.
Another old chestnut is “everything happens for a reason” which people usually say when something bad happens to you.

Oh, how I hate that one, too! When people say that, I wonder if they’ll accept that their saying, “Everything happens for a reason,” was the " reason" I “happened” to punch them in the face? :joy:

Good on you, though, for dealing with old shit! (I’m doing a bit of that myself.) If you ever need to get stuff out, I’m usually around.
