The Populist Plank (and me and TYT!) in the news! Kara Eastman - Redefining Midwestern Nice — Jejune Magazine
WOW, I always knew you were beyond amazing, but damn! What a great article; it was fun learning more about you. (And you looked beautiful, as always!)
What if we created dedicated issue trackers for each plank—real-time hubs for news, policy updates, and ways to take action? Instead of just responding to the news, we’d have tools tracking corruption, legislation, and grassroots efforts to make real change.
For example:
- Dark Money Tracker – Exposing corporate influence in elections & lobbying.
- Housing for People, Not Profit – Mapping which firms are buying up homes.
- No More Wars Watch – Following U.S. military actions and spending.
- Fair Pay Now – Tracking worker strikes and wage fights.
Each one could have its own dedicated page, social media updates, and action alerts—all under Operation Hope, making it easier to stay informed and mobilize.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for these lovely comments.
LOVE this and I think Cenk will too.
What a great article. Kara, you have such an amazing and wide-ranging set of experiences. I knew about the congressional runs of course but didn’t know about all of the organizations you’ve led or been involved with both in Nebraska and Illinois.
I think my favorite part of the article was this. It reminds me a little of the MLK, Jr. quote about the fierce urgency of now. This is not the time to give up or hold back, it’s time to act.
Oh yeah, we definitely need to reach out to Maxwell Frost.
Later in the video how he talks about hope is my reason: https://youtu.be/P_kg1jxAWEs?si=idU9x9kEFqbsXraG.
Thank you!!! This is very kind.
Let’s discuss ideas for this week’s meeting:
Statistics have been added to www.populistplank.com (under each policy issue). Great idea @mggbwmn8!!!
Just a thought that i keep forgetting to put forward. Is there any studies that calling things these fancy words like “plank” turns any normies away? I had to google it and just got more confused i get its like a metaphor to building a house or something but … if people are as dumb as me and arnt interested in looking up the definition, it wont speak to them? Idk. Is there a better word than plank? Or has it been proven to be the most useful phrasing?
Ok thought has been put out there thanks fir reading.
I completely agree. I worry that we’re using “insider language” and rhetorical shortcuts rather than saying what we really mean in how normal people talk. “Negotiate all drug prices” means nothing to a regular person, but “healthcare for all” does. " “Ban private equity from buying up homes” is really wonky but everyone can understand “Homes for people, not for corporations.” Our “plank” should be focused on the “what” not the “how.” I also would like us to have some collateral in other languages and the technical language doesn’t translate well. And it’s just not how people talk.
100 PERCENT AGREE. Stuff like “negotiate all drug prices” just sounds like bureaucratic noise, but “healthcare for all” is something people feel. Same with housing, no one’s walking around saying “private equity,” they’re saying “why can’t I afford a home?”
