Pushing MAGA to accept “progressive policies” may not be the most effective approach. Populist policies (which happen to also be progressive) might be a better angle. When you’re reaching across the aisle on issues where we know there is agreement (populist by definition), you’ll have a much greater chance of success. This is the basis for the Populist Plank, which lowering drug prices is included in.
The way I see it, you may as well go ahead and figure out if the guy is a real populist or not. If he opposes populist policies, you have your answer and you’re just pumping a dry well. If the purpose of the relationship is to sway him on policy, not approaching the policies is just wasting everyone’s time. I don’t think he’s likely to be more persuaded because of a feigned courtship.
