It might have been my idea, but we are all a part of this. I am not the only person who gets a say in how we do this. Just wanted to put that out there

Hi all,

I appreciate those who have volunteered to help with this project. As far as coding is concerned, I’ve got a solid handle on that. At this time, if we add more people who want to code for this project, I feel it will become counterproductive. However, if I do need assistance with the code, I will definitely reach out here. Also, if there is something we need that requires a particular expertise, myself or projectforprogress will also reach out here to see if someone can fill that need.

All that being said, absolutely please continue to discuss in this thread. Share your thoughts, ideas, etc. I may even post stuff in here for general feedback.

Please let me or projectforprogress know if you have any questions.

Ladies and Gentleman……. we got ‘em. lol jk. Everytime I hear “Ladies and Gentleman”, that’s what I think of now. Thanks Cenk lol.

Okay, now to be serious.

Ladies and Gentleman,

I finished gathering all the data and uploading it to a database.

  • 2.1 million donation entries (these are donations over $2000 since 108th Congress)
  • 612,000 donor names since 108th Congress
  • 6,019 bills (these are House Res, House Joint Res, Senate Res, and Senate Joint Res bills passed into law since 108th Congress)
  • 2,825 politicians (includes all governors, senators, representatives, and presidents since 108th Congress)
  • 68,200 votes from said politicians on uploaded bills

We’ve got all the data we need to start building the lite version of the Project Paper Trail website and app.

Shout out to projectforprogress for providing the overall vision of this project.

I have created a working front and backend. Here’s a video of website being used. It’s not publicly available yet, but we’re getting there. There’s inevitably going to be some data discrepancies, but we will work on getting that fixed.

This is amazing! I can’t imagine how much work is going into this. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Hope the PSAT went well!

Here is mobile version. It just works locally through my phone right now. Not available to public yet.

Project: Paper Trail mobile version

Just want to clear the air on this. I want this app and website to be free for the public. I do not want any money generated from this. I joined projectforprogress on this initiative to help the average American.

I know TYT needs to generate revenue because they are a large organization, so if ads need to be on the app, I understand. I trust TYT in that they will use any potential revenue for good purposes. However, I don’t want the money. I live a modest yet comfortable life as a teacher. I am happy with my way of life.

Update 2 for site!

That’s an amazing update in the pipeline —being able to click so you can see not just how they voted but how that relates to their donors will go to what Cenk talks about all the time and show the link between corruption and votes. When the update is ready this should definitely be brought to Cenk’s attention again imo.

PROJECT UPDATE

Had a call with @Cookie Dragon (eddyizm) on Discord. He made some revisions to optimize the website for deployment and future additions via crowdsourcing. We will be testing the site on a dummy domain tomorrow to fix any remaining issues. Once this is done (Monday or Tuesday), we will use the real domain (corruptionwatch.us). I will let you know when the site is live on corruptionwatch.us

LET’S.

FREAKING.

GO.

I’d love to see a “Consequential Vote“ flag or something similar that identifies when a particular vote made the difference. Either because the vote was won by one, or lost by one.

Given the amount of “hall pass“ votes obscuring a representatives true positions, we can only really be sure of someone’s allegiance when the inclusion or withholding of their vote swung the decision.

Of course, it still matters that our representatives vote the way we want them to on any given topic, but when the outcome is overwhelming in either direction it’s easier for the representative to say “Oh, well this vote is already decided, might as well vote with my constituents to build up goodwill, even though if my vote could have swung the decision I would obviously have voted with my donors instead.“

Great observation. I’m adding this to our “issues” tab on Github. Github is where our code is housed.

PROJECT UPDATE

The site is live but on a dummy domain right now. We hope to get the site live TONIGHT at corruptionwatch.us

Please continue to provide feedback. For version 2, we are looking at the following:

-adding a how-to/tutorial section or page for navigating site

-identifying “consequential votes”

-adding a footer that indicates version number of site

-other coding stuff (too technical to explain here. basically optimizes crowdsourcing)

Did Kara respond to us about getting Cenk to weigh in?

Not yet.

Also, forgot to mention the non-employed thing you mentioned. We’ll look at that too.
