Reaching an older audience?

Being a so-called “Boomer,” I don’t think that you can throw all of us in the same category, which, of course, is kind of what we have done with the labels of Republican and Democrat. These labels are killing us and, no, we are not all the same, though it is fair to say that people do become more and more rigid in their beliefs as they get older, when, in fact, they have not gone outside of their own comfort zone and experienced the vast diversity of the world. Humans are kind of like Herd animals who pull closer together when scared instead of breaking free of the pack and thinking for themselves. That said, we need to stop with the labels.

“The olds,” huh? I love it. Being one of “the olds,” I guess that I am breaking the pattern of having a closed mind and thus reading your comment and considering what you have to say. Fair enough. I would like to suggest though that you stop buying into the Narrative that mainstream media and even TYT at times sells about the older generation being so close-minded and powerful. Yes, a number of us have, in fact, benefitted from “White Privilege,” and getting older and more physically frail does bring up fears of not being able to survive the wicked nature of a Capitalist System that one, for better of worse, has bought into in the interest, if nothing else, of pure personal survival. Many of us lived during a time when better alternatives were discussed, but were never realized. Not even close, in fact. Those of us who took the side of the Left and Unions, payed a price for doing so at times, and for many it has been much easier to go the path of least resistance and just go along with those in power. Of course, they too have been royally screwed as well. However, a lot of people on all sides lost a lot since 2008 where Wall Street and the filthy rich were protected over the taxpayers who, to add insult to injury, were then forced to bail them out while being told how irresponsible they had been to follow the lead of those who were never forced to experience any consequences for their actions. This happened on the watch of not only the Democrats, but the Republicans too. There is a lot of anger out there and people feel betrayed as do younger people who are being completely buried in Student Loan debt and not having the kind of opportunities to buy houses, land a competitive job, and enjoy some of the benefits that others have had in the past. I think that we all have more in common than not, unless you are filthy rich, of course, but we need to stop thinking things through the propaganda and misinformation narrative that is constantly being thrown out there, which even TYT – at times – is not completely free of. Don’t forget that TYT, in order to survive, depends on your hard earned money too, so, like us, they are trapped in this system as well.

Honestly, let’s get a definition of old. What does that mean?

The definition of old should be patience, wisdom, acceptance, and being hopeful, but, sadly, for some, it seems to be increased rigidity, bitterness, and paranoia.

Older is a generation that grew up before all this technology. People who want to watch news on tv and not rely on apps, streaming, podcasts, twitter/X Facebook instagram and whatever else is used. I’m Gen X who didn’t have a computer after I was done with college! I typed college papers on a typewriter! I have little tech skills but I am the freaking Geek Squad to my parents to resolve the most annoying most simple tech complications to watch youtube tv and I have no answers why things do not work the way they are expected to work. If TYT was not on youtube tv even i wouldn’t be watching. Even I want to watch on a tv screen not a tiny phone screen.

My wife and I are both 70. We were turning over cop cars when Harvey Milk got gunned down. The hammer and sickle is promenently displayed in our house. I have all my original copies of Ossawatomee.

TYT comes on right after Jeopardy! It is usually pretty good comedy. 80% of the content is Trump-related, so…

We get solid radical analysis elsewhere.

So, basically anyone older than you? I accept that because I’m Gen-X too! :joy:

Dr. Rashad Richey clips? Lol. He’s the reliable suit and tie in the house. I really loved when Dan Rather was on TYT. Omg wish we could have been able to afford keeping him. :heart_on_fire::sob::heart_on_fire:

This is why I always make the case for our need of a third party. I think that is the only vehicle regular people could have at being heard. When the House is split so evenly, it’s the window for power if a third party could take seats. Inevitably I think we might come together towards progress if culture war battles and the concentration of money in politics could be fragmented.
