The Economy, Stupid

Last one out, turn out the lights! See you in Europe, if I should make it out alive…

More Economy, Stupid:

The biggest reason why the Open Convention was not permitted was not due to a Race Card War (though that was a contributing factor, and it was probably used by the puppetmasters as an excuse to get all candidates on board with a Coronation…); the simple fact is that many companies, politicos, and contractors had promised deals with Biden, and they weren’t going to risk those deals being broken with a new candidate…

A narrative I see being sold by some of the Dems and Left is that it was impossible for her to win, given current anemic economic circumstances.

OK: think back to all the enthusiasm for Walz. A big part of it was: “Thank Dobbs, we’re going to try some new approaches.” Look at how much she lost by, and ask yourself: if it had been Walz calling shots on policy, could he have made up for that difference? I know the answer to that; some people will convince themselves that it was still hopeless but, in my opinion, that’s just a grief-coping mechanism; it’s just too painful for them to admit she screwed the pooch with her no-new policies-just-Trump-is-real-bad campaign (the rinse+repeat of the Clinton 2016 campaign -it failed then, it failed even worse now…)

You’re right this outcome was forseeable, and winning the election was very doable for the Democrats. It’s funny how Democrats have completely forgotten the multitude of progressives telling them such.

I am completely mystified at how a vast majority of Dems and Lefts are not calling out Harris for rerunning Clinton 2016! That was HER decision…

Carville, whom I have great professional respect for, is going off on wokism being part of the blame for the Dem loss. That’s a bit crackpot; that’s exactly the talking point that Repubs want to have.

It’s really simple Jim: the BIGGEST factor was the Economy Stupid. Take a bow: you figured that out decades ago! I am gauging that women who felt strongly for abortion rights and others who found Stupid Hitler to be repellent stowed those considerations because they were at the end of their economic rope; see the post-election videos above,

hi drea_m_r_76 It was great chatting with you and being online friends. I am cancelling my TYT membership. I am paid up to 4/25 so I don’t know if when I cancel my account will be active till then or not. In the run up to the election I wondered how TYT was going to handle the both sidings and what-about-isms by some hosts of Republicans and Democrats, Trump and Biden/Harris. And they decided to just pretend it didn’t happen. I just can’t double think that.

I think Cenk gave interpretations that were grounded in reality. The problem for me now is that in spite of Cenk’s good efforts, what’s the point now? The damage done by the Repubs will be IRREPARABLE.

I think we need a funeral service for this country at the end of the year, so people get in touch with their external reality, as opposed to the crazy acting I see by many like it’s just another presidency. The common refrain on Left outlets: “We’ll get 'em in 2/4 years!”

One more mental exercise to get that it was the Economy Stupid: many women voted for Trump in spite of what he did to abortion rights. I would argue that was them being at the end of their economic ropes, keeping food+shelter mattered more than abortion rights. Yes, it’s extremely dubious he will deliver economic prosperity in the long run. My guess: we will have 1-2 years of cocaine candy highs in markets, then, like in EVERY ONE of his ““business ventures”” he will come up against external reality and the magical thinking will not cut it. It was a Chaos Lottery ticket play for those women who voted for someone they did not care for.

Even if he were to deliver long-term economic prosperity for most (and I don’t buy that at all…), it won’t matter living in a world where you just slowed down a conversion to greener energy sources. The amped up carbon production will accelerate climate catastrophes, making it nearly impossible to do consistent agriculture and leading to widespread famines.

Hey, but if you’re a 10 percenter, you’ll continue to get take-out in your single-use plastics, right? Enjoy your bunkers!

I completely get what you’re saying, and I hope you can stay at least until 4/25! I am, though, openly curious to see how TYT addresses the pre-inauguration period and the
beginning of the presidency… So, what you’re saying is there’s time to change your mind.:pray::heart:

The American Experiment turned out to be 248 years; it had some promise. Here’s my abstract of what happened:

  • Jefferson realized that democracy would not work without an educated populace; he tried an experiment to fix it (University of Virginia…), but it did not work.

  • Higher ed prices went up in the 60s; to counter that, LBJ did a lot of financial aid programs. The problem with that is they will later get cut under another administration.

  • And they got cut under Reagan; the Dems did not fight it. Many people of college age in the 80s, and later, but did not get a chance to complete an academic program (other than something like a couple of years at a community college…) are voting adults now. COINCIDENCE?!

  • Then Cheney mortally wounded the country with the second Iraq war; and an ignorant voting populace rewarded him by reelecting him in 2004. These are the guys who gave us the so-called ““Patriot”” Act. The MAGA Repubs talk a good game these days about repudiating that adventure; but do they talk about his war profiteering now? Have him called to legal account on it??

  • Now MAGA+Trump are just coming in to finish the job of killing The Experiment. Now they are going after GRADE SCHOOL education.

If you were at the end of your economic rope and voted for Trump, I can’t blame you; Harris offered NO economic policy to get your boat righted (and she could have; see my other posts…) I think you will regret it in 1-2 years, but the irreparable damage will now be done.

I will just be hopping on from time to time to rebut any narratives that Harris/the Dems couldn’t have won…

Thank you for your kind reply. Live goes on. Sometimes people are left behind. We are in a period where we have to go on, or get left behind. This is Weimer Republic time in the USA. Ana is becoming a Libertarian and Libertarians are just skirmishers for the right. And yes, I have until 4/25 to change my mind. (",)

It makes complete sense to cancel Pakman; after Biden’s head fell out in the debate, what were his comments on whether Biden should step down? NOTHING but a series of just-trying-to-be-objective-here’s. He had been invited to a White House social for new media pundits before that -so he thought he owed it to stow his honesty?!

The Turks have been consistently honest. Some of their team members are betrothen to their ideals over strategy when a workable strategy is the shooting match, but Cenk has always been practical…

Damn, I was meant to watch this video! I totally forgot to watch it until now, but someone on Substack suggested a video for me to watch, and I just realized it’s the same one. Now we just need about 12 million people. :face_with_monocle:

War and Peace is so good! Maybe instead of anything News related, I’ll spend the rest of the year celebrating the holidays as only a Budding Buddhist Recovering Catholic can, meditating in my lovely groups and classes (and alone), and reading 19th-century Russian literature. And the book club, of course!
