That didn’t take too long! I opened this thread on January 26th. Maybe it’s not a full junta yet, but the military being used as a domestic police force is a solid step to a junta.
Just looked up the senate record; all Dems did not vote for Hegseth. Hooray: they did their job that time.
Next stop: declaration of martial law. I would say we’re in a junta at that point, and it will then be near impossible to salvage this economy.
Markets flat; my take: they are in serious denial.
I think it will be time for national strikes at that point, with rolling boycotts. With few foreign investors wanting to invest in a country that is under martial law, I think workers would have little to lose at that point. It would be more of an attempt to apply pressure to Repubs to kick him out ASAP (should they awake from their fever dream that at this point they can still ““win””…)
I could be wrong; but my suspicion is that the Budget will not pass and get a rewrite, with the eventual cooperation of the House.
Sean O’Brien of the Teamsters should start mulling over if he will have to sign onto national strikes. But first: let’s see if or when Bunker Boy declares martial law…
