Not sure what to make of this. I think the supposed “rightward” pivot from Ana & Cenk is overblown. AOC should have just left well enough alone. But, what do you all think?

Some pundits are equivocating on AOC’s vote of “present” as not being an Israel-First sell out. But at the very least, AOC could have said that she would vote no until the Gaza crap stops, right?
AOC was triangulating to win at a later date Chuck Schumer’s orthodox and pro-Zionist constituency. That is not the thinking that Mamdani has used.
I am not impressed with AOC, although she does do the boring work of “fixing potholes” that a politico needs to do (and Mamdani is trying to do right now…) When people talk her up as a presidential 2028 candidate, I say give me a break. I’d much rather see her as a Senate replacement for Schumer, who along with Jeffries enabled no vote taking place on a War Powers vote on Iran (and thus further enabled, once again, Trump…)
The only critique I have to say on Ana is: sometimes less is more. She produced the receipts she needed, but her response segment could have been shorter.
[I recently saw a documentary on Roosevelt, discussing the drafting of his speech in response to Pearl Harbor. All his aides wanted a long speech, since it was going to be such a big move. He overruled them and kept it short -it turned out to be a great speech…]
Totally agree. TYT talks about avoiding leftist infighting but they jump eeen it - and seems AOC is definitely in the normie Dem sphere that says Ana is moving right - which may be true - but no evidence of a grift or something sinister.
I don’t have the time or patience to watch this whole video, or to figure out AOC’s voting record on Israel, but taking the shortcut of using AI, I get this:
”….Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Voting Record on Israel Funding
| Date | Legislation Description | Vote Type | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | Funding package for Israel’s Iron Dome | Present | Passed |
| 2026 | Pledged not to vote for any military aid to Israel | N/A | N/A |
2021 Iron Dome Funding: Ocasio-Cortez voted “present” on a significant funding package for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. This vote was controversial and highlighted her complex stance on military aid to Israel.
2026 Commitment: Recently, Ocasio-Cortez has publicly committed not to vote for any military aid to Israel, including defensive capabilities. This marks a shift from her previous position where she supported sending “defensive” arms.
Ocasio-Cortez has expressed opposition to military funding for Israel, emphasizing her commitment to transparency and accountability to her constituents.
Her recent pledge indicates a firm stance against all forms of military aid to Israel, reflecting a significant change in her approach to this issue.
so, on the face of it, Ana’s snippy remark seems unfounded.
if the question is whether Ana has been moving to the right, then this question is an old one, and not entirely easy to answer. She is not consistently on the far left, and there have been some “blind spot” positions that she takes where she seems to give off evidence of having been partly red-pilled (such as her neelessly friendly posture toward Tucker Carlson, not to mention her mediocre performance on the issue of whether or not we should take project 2025 seriously, or whether the Trump regime is moving in a fascist or generally violent statist direction). On other matters (I would say a majority of them), I am quite sympathetic to Ana’s journey - it is not at all easy to be an independent in this world, and form an independent opinion.
[edit]: I’ve been around long enough to know that Ana’s research capabilities are generally solid, and so I’m watching a bit more of the video. So far, I don’t think that Ana’s comment is quite warranted, though I can at least see some of her reason.
I ended up liking the video more than expected. To me, Ana’s goal is clear. And I have no clue where AOC’s X response even came from. Very Trumpy and concerning. Like I hoped her account was being managed by a newbie intern or something.
