I had breakfast with my dad two days ago. He’s a staunch Trump supporter. I asked him what he thought of the Jan 6 pardons. He said “Well, ya know, I don’t know all the background behind it”…giving Trump the benefit of the doubt. SMH.
I am now convinced that the only way we’ll win is if progressives get out of the way and let conservatives and Trump wreck the country. Historically, that’s been the only time we’ve made real change. The Civil War led to the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, FDR passed the New Deal after the Great Depression, the civil rights and voting rights acts were only passed after the turmoil of the civil rights movement, Obama was elected after the 2008 financial crisis and the wars, and Joe Biden was elected because of the 2020 pandemic and civil unrest which came from police brutality on African Americans.
When people are so emotionally tied to something, they only way they can part with it is if some great traumatic event happens which is able to sever their ties with them. That’s how we’ll win.
Sun Tzu said “The opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself”. We shouldn’t be trying to debate them. We shouldn’t be advocating peace and love. We should let them fuck this place up until it is self evident that we’re right and they’re wrong.
I think it’s time to start talking about a partitioning of the country, along the lines of Red/Blue, but welcoming States to go independent if they had enough of both parties.
I know the effective reincorporation of the C.S.A. is a dream come true for crackers. But how can we continue to operate in a country that has lost its three branches of government and returned to a monarchical dictatorship? The only answer I can see is to re-form the country by the State participants who still believe in the foundational principles that were established at the founding of this country. I think we would need the assistance of Canada for a trade route that the coastal States would require; a strong trade alliance with Canada would also be an important part of such a re-forming.
I know some of the people reading this will inevitably go: that’s crazy talk! Really? And it’s not crazy to continue to think that the Supreme Court [majority] will follow established legal precedent and be equitable and consistent with upcoming rulings on Trump?? How can you work together with people who believe it’s their right to asymmetrically ignore a rule of law when you usually honor it, no matter who is in the White House or Congress? (and the Kangaroo Court now backs them up, to boot…) Show’s over people; it remains to be seen if the partitioning of the country will be done in a way that’s not fraught with violence.
Musk may be getting his wish to trash the country; but he will be on borrowed time after that. I hope he enjoys living in bunkers all the time, questioning whom around him he can trust. Perhaps Putin or Netanyahoo can give him some pointers…
