Cenk was right to bring up the possibility of the Binance hack being an inside job

I’m usually very critical of Cenk’s and TYT in general’s takes on issues relating to the tech industry. But yesterday a video was released where Cenk made a very astute observation that pretty much nobody else made in regards to the recent 6.2 Billion dollar Binance hack. I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

He made the claim that this hack could be an inside job. THANK YOU CENK. I’ve been waiting for someone to say this. In the year 2026 and beyond, whenever you hear about a hacking, it should always be your Occam’s razor that it’s an inside job. Actual hacks where an external 3rd party gains unauthorized access to a computer system is very rare in this day and age. I say this because I work int eh cyber security industry, and I know how easy it is to make secure computer systems. Whenever a system is breached, its always either someone accidentally “left the front door open”, or purposefully “left the front door open”. It’s never a completely separate 3rd party breaking down the front door.

The thing is, the general public, including the legal system and especially the media, is not aware of this. When they hear that North Korean hackers broke down the digital defenses of a computer system, they immediately go “that makes sense”, and then act as stenographers for the powerful and just report the press release as if it’s the word of god.

Especially now that AI hacking is a news story that is all over the media, I expect more “hacks” like this to be announced in the near future. If you’re trying to pull off a fake hack, what you want to happen is the investigation to reach a dead end. Framing it to the North Koreans is the easiest way to achieve this. Also, when it comes to investigating physical crimes, it’s relatively hard to fabricate evidence, but when it comes to computer crime, evidence is super easy to fake if you want to fake it.

Blockchain analysis is also something that is often completely fraudulent. 99% of people who read these analysis reports have no idea what a blockchain even is, and so they can just say whatever, and most people will just shrug and go “ok”. It wouldn’t surprise me if whoever stole the billions of dollars took some of that money and paid a “blockchain analysis firm” a couple million to just release a press release saying they did an “investigation” and it resulted in the hackers coming from North Korea.
