A great doc.
I have discussed on my posts that the US should have an alternative to military service, called a “civic service”. The purpose would be to break down class division by having different classes work together (a person could choose one year of military after high school or two years of civic, since military is more demanding…) The program could be a venue to provide college education aid (for up to 2 years? more for additional service??)
You see the ecological problems the US was facing in the 1930s that this program addressed, and the climate damage and plastic pollution all over the US now, and it appears to be pretty much a no-brainer.
Repubs would argue:”No way! The program would become rife with corruption…” Go take a hike; the only way government programs become rife with corruption is if you invite wanna-be mob gangsters like Bunker Boy in to run them. Keep the programs conducted by such a civic service to be efficient and relatively (to the military…) low cost, and the incentive for graft is not there.
You reduce structural unemployment, educate the populace, bring about better social cohesion (as opposed to the tribal ways that have grown over the past 30 years…), and tackle climate and pollution problems that are not presently being addressed…
