Getting out of my comfort zone has meant challenging my own assumptions about how change happens. Recently, I’ve been practicing “active discomfort” - deliberately seeking out perspectives that challenge my existing views, especially around social innovation and systemic change.
For example, I’m currently collaborating with people whose approaches to problem-solving differ significantly from mine. While it would be easier to stick with familiar methods, I’ve found that combining diverse viewpoints often leads to more effective solutions. This has pushed me to develop better listening skills and question my own biases.
It’s not always comfortable, but these experiences have shown me that meaningful progress often happens in those uncomfortable spaces where different ideas intersect. There’s a certain kind of growth that only comes from being willing to be wrong, to learn, and to adapt.
What about you? How are you challenging yourself to grow beyond your comfort zone? What’s one assumption you’ve reconsidered lately?
