Excellent analysis of Musk and Rogan

I’m watching live now and I’ve heard two points that I want to strongly agree with:

  • Cenk made a point about the second spectrum of politics, about which he has apparently recently written for Newsweek. This does help it make sense that Rogan would go for both Sanders and Trump.
  • The other host has talked about Rogan’s incompetence (my own word here) in sitting across from Musk and showing that he is not capable of being a discerning host and understanding that Musk does not know what he’s talking about.

I disagree with some of the mystification that Cenk is voicing as to how Trump and others think it’s a good idea to continue with the outrageous racist and misogynistic and generally hate-filled outbursts. I think Cenk and others are missing that if Trump were to back off of these things now, he would have a loss of votes as well as a gain of votes. This is part of Trump’s populist appeal that he is always willing to keep the pedal to the metal and say things that he’s not supposed to say (according to mainstream thinking) but which some of his followers want him to say.

It’s not his “populist” appeal. It’s his tribal appeal.

In my opinion populism and tribalism are not antithetical. In any event, Trump may sometimes side with the establishment, but he sells himself nicely as being anti-establishment, and a lot of people see him this way, hence, it can be said he seems to have some populist appeal.
