It was great to hear Cenk talk about his trip with his family to Europe last week. I have been to those castles. But more importantly, I was also in Europe around the same time with my husband and kids (13 and 9). We are from Kentucky and we have watched talented artists from our state reach international prominence after years of playing bars and birthday parties where we live. We were lucky to see some on their ways up, so when Kentucky’s own Sturgill Simpson was playing in Paris where most of his last album was written, we had to go. This was parleyed into a more than week excursion with our kids to Paris and the French countryside where we visited a family friend. Paris was fun and exciting but in Normandy we slowed down, watched movies, cooked meals together, and hung out in the backyard and on the coast. Our family friend is also from Kentucky and we enjoyed morning walks with his dog named Kentucky. His French home was adorned with familiar pictures from home and furniture from his parents’ home. It was the most Kentucky house in Normandy! We came back to Paris for the show and it was one of the best concerts ever, and I have been to some good ones. It was just magic. We spent our final days with the kids exploring the city, trying new food, and spending time together I will never forget. It sounds like your trip and it’s wild that it was around the same time.
