How can we turn some our biggest challenges into our biggest strengths?

On the left we have a wide and diverse network of activists, intellectuals, fighters, lovers, etc… some might say scattered and disorganized. How can we better disseminate information and drive engagement? How can we funnel our energies into certain coalitions with things like the proposed Rebellion now? How can we harness the power of being the ones with principles and responsibility, instead of letting our opponents move the goal posts and abandon their promises time and time again? How can we better demonstrate the entire establishment working overtime, together against working class representatives means we are on the right track?

What kind of challenges do you see us facing in the coming fight? What can we do to not only overcome these issues, but use them against the system?

Some ideas to use and mitigate being scattered and disorganized:

  • Centralized board of ideas (joining forces with like-minded groups)
  • Advertise actual progress made for motivation
  • Make it easy to show that you’re engaging (questions with short one-sentence responses, “have you done x yet?” polls, etc.)
  • Using the decentralized nature of the movement to push multiple positive ideas at the same time
  • Having some motivated members lead smaller, more organized groups with a specific goal (e.g. coding an API for sending e-mails that can be used on blog sites or designing a poster to put on real life bulletin boards) and promoting them on the show
  • Making it easier to navigate to this forum

Definitely good advice. Some of these are things that have been in our ongoing discussions, with some great results. Join us on the next zoom meeting!

I’m afraid I won’t be able to. It’s at 2:30 AM in my time zone. But if my sleep schedule happens to be enough of a mess around then I might consider it. Are there any kind of notes taken during the meetings one could read to catch up? (I recommend writing a summary here on the forums after each meeting! If there’s one thing that scares me off from these kinds of project groups it would be a lack of structure and communication.)

I’m more comfortable with communication over text or in smaller groups anyway… By the way, if some programming-related task or “workshop group” pops up, please let me know! Or any vaguely art-related one, I guess. That goes for anyone else reading this too, of course!
