I don’t know what to say, Cenk; if the Supreme Court does not do its job ruling against gerrymandering, then the States have to show the Court that they have had it and want to leave -because what’s the point of a Federation if some States will opt to disenfranchise their voters? And make no mistake about it: Texas went there first many YEARS ago!
What California is now trying to do is effectively a last attempt to prod the Supreme Court into taking action and stop the gerrymandering done by ALL States.
This is a problem that should have been addressed in the 1990s…
Wow! How insanely childish!! “Redistricting is for me, but not for thee!!” Does anyone doubt that the federal courts will bounce this claim? (though they might FINALLY intercede with some attempts to make redistricting fair and not denying representation on a federal basis…)
Though we are still working out appeals in the California State courts. If those get cleared, there’s not a doubt in my mind that most California voters will endorse such a move. It must be pretty galling that California, being the 5th largest economy in the world, has had to put up with the gerrymandering antics of Texas all these years!
