Trump needs to bear responsibility for giving Elon the power he’s obtained through DOGE. If you want to wear the big boy pants, you are responsible for what happens while wearing said pants. For once, will somebody hold Trump accountable for an action?
I doubt it. He’s been able to get away with everything criminal he has done. If the Espionage charge, Top Secret at highest level was stolen, the incitement of January 6, 2021, plus others, did not land him in jail, then nothing will. Let’s not forget, that the SCOTUS practically gave him full immunity for just about any crime he commits. The weakling DOJ AG, Merrick Garland, had the chance and duty to charge him the day after JAN6, but instead we eventually found out he was not going to do so, until Trump announced he was running way early for POTUS.
It comes down to the Supreme Court, which has jumped the rails. They CAN reintroduce a previous bad decision and re-rule on it; but I think those chances are slim to none.
Barring that, I think a federation of some of the States need to step up and in to replace the vacuum of lawlessness that the Supreme Court invited. If a State has a referendum on living in a system of government where a President is King, they can go for it and enjoy living under a Kangaroo Court. I know a majority in a number of the States never signed up for that.
And if a new one or ones are formed, the biggest issue that needs to be addressed (though not the only one…) is removing party control of balloting. EVERY candidate needs to be secured by petition. It’s as plain as day what happened: corporations and plutocrats bought the parties and locked out candidates that were against their issues. We would never have gotten a Trump (including the first term…) if we had better alternatives than the hand-picked corporate ones on the Dem side.
Part of the problem has been a reticence to repair the design flaws of the U.S. system of representational democracy. The designers did an amazing job, but at the end of the day there were flaws lurking in it (and I enumerate them in this post (link)…) Many in America are indoctrinated in their youth to believe it’s PERFECT. Hey, they got a lot of things right (capitalism, so long as it is not monopolistic and has guard rails against destructive actions such as pollution, was one…) But the U.S. kept kicking the can down the road on the ballot access problem, in part helped by the distractions fostered by the corporate owners of The Duopoly party system. We should accept a dictatorship if guys like Bernie only want to give speeches (I don’t know; maybe he’s going to kick off the Independent alliance idea, maybe he won’t; in my book, time is up to float that -you need plenty of time to get the petitions secured…)
And States where most people like having a King (and presently a horrific one…), leave them to their devices. We can’t save someone who wants to remain willfully ignorant.
Same for States that love living under a rule of corporations and plutocrats…
Next stop: curbside protests at their homes, or at the gates of their gated communities.
That won’t avert an illegal coup that’s in the works, but just saying, if you need to vent at SOME of the weasels responsible (and those in the Dem Party who offered nothing for workers in the 2025 election are also some of the weasels responsible…)
