I'm Almost a Candidate!

I am attempting to get a ballot line in my town (really a small city of about 62,000 people in 33 sq miles) for the Green Party. I plan on running for Mayor, this years most dramatically contested job. Am I qualified? Of course. One of the first things I plan on doing is to hire a professional Town Manager.

Is there any chance I can win? I’m estimating a 1 in 12 chance.

Should be interesting given I am a Peace activist and a Marxist!

Well, right now I just need 6 more CT electors to sign the petition for ballot line access. If some of them could be from any of the 9 Legislative Districts of the Town of Hamden (besides Districts 5 and 6 - I have these), that would be terrific. One step at a time. I do have an invitation to participate in a mayoral candidates Q & A event. I need to finish filling out those questions - there are a lot of them!

Thank you for the offer!

Best of luck with running! We need more people actually throwing their hat in the ring. And both the left and right are sick of their respective parties, so running third party may be more viable than it used to be. I’ve voted Green a few times and hopefully more people are open to it now too.

Update! I got enough signatures to get the Green Party on the Ballot. Now I need to petition only registered voters from my Town to get my name on the Green ballot line. I also need the state party endorsement but that is not so difficult.

Thank you both! I’m still looking for valid Hamden, CT signatures. On the 30th is the Green Party state meeting where I expect to be nominated by the party as a whole. Busy days!

Update! I believe I have more than the required number of signatures to get on the ballot as the Green Party candidate for Mayor of Hamden, CT. Last Wednesday I secured the GP endorsement so that part is official at least. Tomorrow I hand in my petition pages to the Town Clerk and Registrar and they determine the validity of my signatures. Then the pages go to the Secretary of State’s Office and I should be getting a letter stating that I will be on the ballot. Let’s hope there are no hitches!
