Interesting study

I found an article by a PHD student Steve Rathje.

which talks about how conservatives are less likely to correctly identify fake news articles than liberals. But, when offered money to correctly identify fake news articles both groups get better at the task and conservatives perform almost as well as liberals.

This is super interesting since it means they have some other motivation clouding their reasoning. It means, if we can break down their motivated reasoning we may be more likely to be able to talk some sense into them.

Conservatives want all of the benefits from society without paying any of the costs. In their world view their choices are rational because of the tax benefits to their own wallets. Their reasoning is not clouded so much as it is fundamentally misguided.
