Legit critique from native country

Native Opinion Podcast Episode 435 "They Still Don't Know Us"

Worth a listen. Lots of discussion of TYT coverage related to native peoples. Constructive criticism.

Heads up to Yasmin & Cenk.

As an Ojibwe woman, I’ve often felt disappointed and even offended by how TYT just really doesn’t cover Native American issues or include them in any kind of meaningful discussion regarding issues that impact minorities and vulnerable communities, with their ignorance (as heard in that clip) the one time I have heard them discuss an issue dealing with Native Americans (not you, Mondale, you’re good), and the random things they’ll say that are racist like referring to someone going “off the reservation.” We are a community that largely doesn’t exist or matter to most people in this country, and it’s more hurtful and harmful when this disregard comes from the Left. Leading up to the election, did anyone report on, discuss, or even consider the Native American vote? Were Native Americans mentioned for all of their work and protests to end the genocide in Gaza and advocate for Palestinians both recently and before most people even knew who they were? I appreciate you posting this, @aarongustafson; thank you for giving me space to say my opinion on this. While Cenk and Ana are off trying to make friends with Maga, maybe it would serve them to also make friends with populations who are legitimately marginalized and whom they are so quick to neglect. Just a thought.

Thank you for sharing your perspective here @drea_m_r_76 :purple_heart:

I appreciate you taking the time to educate. I can only imagine the frustration (and hurt) your feel, especially when it originates from people you might otherwise trust or respect.

I also appreciate you calling in, rather than out. It reminds me how much we all need to spend more time listening to each other and learning from each other’s lived experiences. It’s not fair for us to expect you (or others) to share them, but it is imperative that we listen when you do.
