New Georgia 9th Congressional District candidate

Nick Alex. Democrat. He plans to run against Andrew Clyde. I plan to meet him to see if he will take the Populist Plank Pledge. Please let me know your thoughts on this candidate and any advice you have for me.

I met with Nick Alex. Showed him populist plank. He agreed with it. I asked him if he could sign pledge. He told me to email it to him which I have done. I will follow up with him to see if he signs it.

That’s great! Hopefully he signs it. I’ve asked a few officials by email but only heard back from one and they just said they’d keep it in mind…

He responded. Below is his email:

Dear Arpan,

Thank you for reaching out and for considering me for an endorsement of the Populist Plank. I reviewed the Plank and appreciate the work you’re doing and the initiative behind your efforts.

**At this early point in the campaign, I believe it’s a bit too soon for me to make a specific endorsements or pledges. I would like to take more time talking with our CD 9 voters and understand the scope and impact of your initiative on those voters before making any commitments. **

Please feel free to keep me updated on your progress — I am sincerely interested in the Plank overall. I’d be happy to stay informed and revisit the conversation down the line.

Warm regards,

Nick

It’s disappointing especially since he initially seemed receptive to the plank, but it’s great that you got him to consider and reply to you, and at least he gave you a personalized response. I wonder if that means it’s something to contact him about again closer to the election? I don’t have experience so I don’t know what a good next step, if any, would be.

I’m gonna try to speak about the Populist Plan in an upcoming Gwinnett Democrats meeting. Then, I’m going to see how that goes. I plan to later follow up with him.

He needs to understand the impact that Paid Family Leave and Higher Wages would have on his voters??? Ugh.
