I’m Todd Becker, running for US House in Missouri D-05. Been working with you all for a couple years, last January decided I would run for office to bring fundamental changes to the reach of the poor and middle class. I’ve spent my life creating solutions and finding new perspectives.
I wanted to wait until I launched to bring this to the Ope Hope crowd, since Cenk’s initial idea was and is a populist takeover of the Democratic Party, and that isn’t the direction I’m aiming. To be blunt I believe party politics is a failure, we need independent congresspeople who won’t be swayed, and are really just doing the job of representing their constituents.
Talk is cheap. I’ve thought of a system for having accountability held over the heads of our politicians. It won’t have teeth, but it removes their ability to lie about their votes compared to those of their constituents. My social media is terrible, I’ve got zero experience with it. I’ll be in person campaigning all over my district for the next 10 months and will be asking everyone if I can record our conversations and post them if they find the cut of it acceptable. This is a direct appeal to everyone, everyday people, because this is the only way to really fix a broken democracy. Not forcing change, but allowing it.
