New segment proposal: Rebellion Now!

Here’s the suggestion I mentioned at the working meeting last night to encourage the audience to take fast, collective action together live during the show. Please add your ideas or feedback!

:flexed_biceps: Rebellion Now!

  • :timer_clock: 2-minute segment once a week on the main show

  • :collision: Simple, concrete action viewers can take during the segment

    • The info for the action is shown on screen

    • Cenk explains briefly what to do while info is displayed

    • Could add a countdown clock or Jeopardy-style background music for fun

  • :wrapped_gift: One lucky viewer who completed the action gets a small prize the following week. (Cenk announces previous week’s winner and they email rewards@tyt.com).

Eclectic, this is terrific ! I have done a few of these and hope this platform is discussed on the town hall . Bravo!

This is pretty awesome, seems like a simple way to turn our voice into action. Cenk could announce the impact we had on last weeks rebellion. People are desperate for action and repulsed by ineffectual politicians that refuse to do anything to help.

One week could be about local involvement (look up your district and see what seats are going to be up for a vote, at any level) and provide some kinda up to date resource for that. Showcasing reps and candidates that have endorsed the populist plank and refuse AIPAC money!

1. The Unity Countdown

  • Visual gimmick: Split screen shows “Left Populists” vs “Right Populists” with a live counter (emails sent, signatures, calls logged).

  • Viewers watch the numbers tick upward in real time as people from across the spectrum act.

  • Ends with: “Not left vs. right — we just rebelled together.”

  • Difference: TYT rarely gamifies action; this makes unity measurable and visible.

2. The Hypocrisy Spotlight

  • TYT chooses one member of Congress from each party who takes donor money on the same issue (e.g., pharma cash while opposing drug price negotiation).

  • Viewers blast both simultaneously with the same 2-minute action.

  • Shows bipartisan corruption → invites bipartisan rebellion.

  • Difference: TYT normally critiques one side at a time; this would always show “top vs. bottom.”

3. The Populist Receipt

  • Next week, Cenk shows a “receipt” from the action:
    • # of calls placed
    • petitions signed
    • mentions or media pickup TYT viewers generated

  • Bonus: flash screenshots of posts from viewers across the spectrum.

  • Creates continuity: viewers know their action landed.

  • Difference: TYT news rarely circles back to show direct impact of its audience.

Segment Concept: “Rebellion in Action”

Format (2–3 minutes, weekly or biweekly):

  • Highlight one concrete example of rebellion against the rigged system.

  • Could be a Rebellion PAC candidate, but not always. The broader mix shows this is a movement, not a PAC commercial.

Possible Story Types:

  • Community Uprising: Union locals on strike (UAW, Starbucks, Amazon).

  • Policy Fighters: Local campaigns beating corporate power (e.g., banning private equity landlords, passing local minimum wage hikes).

  • Creative Rebels: Independent media, artists, or TikTokers reaching new audiences with populist messages.

  • Cross-Partisan Surprises: Rural conservatives + urban progressives teaming up against monopoly power.

  • Everyday Rebels: A parent, nurse, or teacher refusing corporate capture in their day-to-day work.

Flow:

  1. Quick setup: “This week’s Rebellion isn’t from Washington. It’s from [place/person].”

  2. Mini-profile or clip (60–90 seconds).

  3. Connection to Populist Plank (e.g., “They’re fighting for higher wages, same as us.”).

  4. Viewer tie-in: “If you want to support them, here’s the action of the week.”

Why It Matters

  • Builds movement identity: Viewers see rebellion happening everywhere, not just in TYT’s studio.

  • Widens tent: Includes groups who may not call themselves “left,” but share economic populist fights.

  • Inspires continuity: Viewers connect their two-minute action to a larger, living struggle.

  • Distinguishes from news coverage: Instead of “here’s a story,” it’s “here’s a rebel example — join them.”

These are great ideas! I think there’s a lot of desire out there to do something, and ideas like these could show people that change is still possible — and that they are or can be agents of that change.

That’s awesome that Cenk came up with a similar idea to this (great minds think alike, lol). I can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s bonus episode is like!

@karaeastman Sorry I’ve been swamped at work. Is there something it would still be useful for me to do related to this, besides tuning in and participating tomorrow (and future weeks if it catches on?)

Not sure yet, but I will let you know as things come up. We are definitely relying on our super volunteers to make this work!
