New York Mayor's Debate

image
Wow! Blake was a PIT BULL! Should he not prevail in the mayoral, I hope he runs to replace Bragg, the DA (New York has no recall mechanism; there should always be one, so long as it has a very high bar of petition numbers for calling it…)

He had a good idea for working to implement a warehousing tax. All the other candidates talked about providing more ““affordable”” housing. Tell me: what “affordable” housing is there in New York that’s not a second coming of some projects? The real estate industry always slaps on additional costs, so that by the time it’s built, it’s effectively costly housing with not very much space.

Better way: have the City lay down water, electrical, and sewage for microhousing. Have the future occupants participate in their construction (stakeholder participation, similar to [Mayor] Ed Koch’s homesteading program in the burned-out 1970s East Village…) Require participation in community watches once the units are built.

Why that probably won’t happen? Because a lot of holders of bouji real estate will not be amused that such cheaper housing options are available in the next neighborhood over! Look at the real estate section of the Sunday NY Times: it’s a phone book. That means: tons of money to shut down such an option for NYC residents.

Mamdani handled himself competently; though to be honest, his City run supermarkets idea has me nervous that he will get discredited at a later date. Yo, Zohran: just go with a tax abatement for stores that sell generic food goods at low prices (Trader Joe’s, Aldi -any other supermarkets willing to offer such an alternative…) Make a program that greenlights their opening in more neighborhoods.

His free bus idea is a good one. A former mayoral candidate had an idea for free subways, but I don’t think that would have worked out!

Real estate, the most powerful money group in New York, are going to back Cuomo. Any candidate seeking a check on rising housing costs is going to be slammed with negative ads by that interest group. Mamdani is going to need a Shea Stadium/Central Park/… (sic.) appearance by Sanders before the primary date (June 24th) to have a fighting chance against such a powerful interest group.

Correction: Zohran fought; BLAKE DESTROYED.

Watch the full debate if you have any doubts on that…

Wrong again! Zohran fought him; Blake DECIMATED him.

Watch the debate video above if you doubt that.

I would like to see the very Prog guy win; but the truth is the truth. If, for example, Zohran had to face off against Blake (which he didn’t really do in that debate…), I can see he would have gotten his clock cleaned.

I would ranked vote Mamdani, then Blake, to better the odds for a candidate to win against Cuomo, who could set [workers] back politically for years; but frankly, it’s all moot if Sanders fails to make a pitch appearance before the Dem primary.

PS: Landers and Stringer weren’t bad, but NYC needs a ferocious mayor to get the boot of rising housing costs off of the throats of NYC residents…

I am still convinced Mamdani can’t pull it off without a Sanders appearance; the money dropped by NY real estate to promote Cuomo will be formidable…

Regarding the “quaint groceries” problem of monopoly pricing (seeing as how Mamdani wants it addressed…)

Please, Zohran: just give tax abatements to stores that want to sell at a lower cost; expand them to more neighborhoods. Getting the City involved in running stores will be a disaster…

Second Debate

Here’s a video explaining how Aldi does it.

Please, Zohran; there is just no way the City will do a better job at running a supermarket than these low-cost alternatives. Just offer abatements and get these stores to open in more neighborhoods…

Estimates show Mamdani will win! Won’t be sure until next week.

Beginning of the end for corporate and AIPAC Dems

I want to point out to Zohran: now that “quaint” groceries are going up or MIA, an effective policy for low-cost food/nutrition options will become extremely important for voters. Please get behind a program for greenlighting the opening of more low-cost food markets (Aldi, Trader Joe’s, whoever…) in exchange for tax abatements, and furnishing lower-cost rent options for them. Please give it up on the City-run markets!

You will have a lot of angry voters if City-run markets fail; right now, where they can open, existing low-cost markets are a huge success.

Imagine that! A Mossad asset wants a candidate who agrees with ICC charges being enforced against NUTanyahoo wants that candidate out of the picture!

Imagine that! A guy wants to tackle problems that are being ignored. That could make for a lot of “national fallout”! If we had gotten Cuomo, there’d be no “fallout” from that, right??
