On: States' Rights for a Healthy Environment

In these times, particularly given the political corporate capture of federal law and federal regulation, our state laws are now more important than ever in securing our rights. To that end, our Oregon Coalition for an Environmental Rights Amendment (OCERA) is our grassroots effort to amend our Oregon Constitution with our fundamental and enforceable right to a healthy environment. Some other states already have such laws, and some are also similarly organizing for such laws.

For more information, here is our OCERA website link. And also, here is our recent meeting with Our Children’s Trust; they are “all in” with our proposal.

By the way, Our Children’s Trust (OCT) works to protect Earth’s climate system for present and future generations by representing young people in global legal efforts to secure their binding and enforceable legal rights to a healthy atmosphere and stable climate. And OCT is fairly well known for representing cases such as Juliana v. US, Genesis v. EPA, and other [Youth v. Gov]s. Passing state laws, such as proposed by our OCERA, empowers cases such as those represented by OCT.

Also, it seems to me that these issues are very populist even across political divides. For instance, RFK Jr was popular for often explicitly calling out how the corporate capture of federal regulation has caused our public health and environmental health crises.

Is anyone, especially in Oregon, interested in helping us with these issues?
