People forget, but after Clinton going “nah nah nah” after he dodged prosecution (it wasn’t prosecution-worthy, but thumbing your nose when Gore had to win an election WASN’T helping Gore…), Clinton also did that abusive pardon and REALLY pissed off A LOT of voters. Some voters took it out on Gore.
[The Republicans should have let it go as a motion of censure; philandering was not “a high crime”. But at the time the personal attack shtick of Gingrich was all the rage…]
Why don’t the Corporate Dems allow the Party to sponsor an amendment to limit presidential pardons to 1,000 per term? -even if they don’t have the votes, since they would later be shown to be on the side of sanity.
Oh, that’s right. It’s because
THEY SUCK!
This will be pretty fucking funny if some of the Repubs do it first!
Every day that goes by and an amendment is not drafted to limit presidential pardons to 1,000 per term, I will shout out here that the Corporate Dems suck. AT THIS POINT many MAGAs would support it. Some of the Repubs would also like to support it but they will be reticent to do so, thinking it will not be supported by any of the MAGAs. WRONG; though I am not a MAGA, I can see that many MAGAs feel by now that they have been betrayed on NUMEROUS points:
The incompetent execution of tariff policy and negotiations: what lunatic actually believes what we have seen will “reshore” jobs?! Luttnick made money from market volatility in bonds -of course HE’s loving it! Passing insider tips just before he is about to crap out a new trade policy threat? Of course, Bunker Boy is loving it!
A REAL no tax on overtime -betrayed! The Cruz bill is window dressing. If you work more than 40 hours, you should be seeing no taxes on that overtime IN THE PAYCHECK FOR THAT WEEK.
An Epstein “investigation” -a colossal sham.
H1Bs -hypocrisy. At the least, employers should be forced to pay the same average wage in tech. Once apples are to apples on pay, the employer can have the freedom to enlist supposedly invaluable foreign talent.
Trump’s BRIBEcoins: crypto regs should require legal representation OR actual id. To prevent us sleepwalking into an oppressive federal credit score system like the Chinese have, the option should be in place for legal intermediaries (this can be done by law firms offering this at scale as a contractual service; it can be covered with a fixed nominal transaction fee charge…) With such rules, once you have a BRIBEcoin, it can be investigated for criminal abuse through a legitimate legal court process.
It is simple, and a no-brainer.
DAY +1: NO AMENDMENT HAS BEEN DRAFTED BY THE DEMS TO LIMIT PRESIDENTIAL PARDONS to 1,000 PER TERM; THEY SUCK!
The votes aren’t there for it? Who freaking cares?? -you need to have a record that you supported it and were not on board the Crazy Train.
As long as you have unlimited pardons and someone like Trump in that position, you will NOT have a “rule of law”.
“Well, the Repubs aren’t going to support it…”
The Dems are supposed to be the opposition; what’s their excuse for not having on the record that they do not support a Crazy Train??
Why “1,000” per term? Why not 1,500, or 500??
Because I have thrown out a reasonable average based on the precedent of previous terms, EXCEPTING Trump’s and Biden’s. It has to stop, now; and we have to start somewhere…
DAY +3: NO AMENDMENT HAS BEEN DRAFTED BY THE DEMS TO LIMIT PRESIDENTIAL PARDONS TO 1,000 PER TERM; THEY SUCK!
As we get further along in their inaction, I will change the frequency of these updates; but don’t worry: I’ll be reminding people on this board all the same of their impersonations of a ficus plant.
Even if they were to eventually get a majority at the midterms -why would they object to supporting such a common-sense legislative agenda??
We already have other sane legislation drafted for other issues (like: the Federal Assault Weapons Ban…) Where is this to cover the gaping hole in the Rule-of-Law ship? Waiting for a bazinga check from Miriam Adelson??
