The person making the allegation says she messaged Platner on Instagram that it was mot consensual. If that’s found, then I could buy it. If not, it’s a case of it not being corroborated. Sorry to say, he’s getting no fair trial.
Just checked online; retention by Instagram of years-old posts is dubious. It’s a he-said/she-said. I find no record of an ER visit makes it VERY suspect.
The fact that she didn’t even bother to go to the ER tells me something about how seriously she took it as rape.
If I could see some historically corroborating evidence, I would be on board with the allegations. So far I am not…
Platner should issue a statement: if the Dem Party lets a candidate that the Maine DSA chooses run in his stead, he’ll step down; otherwise he will hang tough.
Cons: there will be limited time for such a candidate to organize; there might not be a suitable candidate among the DSA members in Maine; the very possible loss will impact the national standing of the DSA
Pros: Mamdani can endorse and promote the candidate, affording him/her much more visibility; it’s not seen as a complete cave on Platner’s part (reminder: where’s an ER report? why didn’t the person making the allegation go to an ER??)
And if that candidate pulls off a hat trick win, that would bolster the prospects for DSA to run in rural areas.
Getting a viable replacement for Platner from the small (tiny?) Maine DSA fold would be no small task! There are few politicos who share his authentic working-man speaking style.

I’m just saying: to have a fighting chance to take out the disastrous Israel-First policies embraced by both the Repubs and Collins, he might have to turn it over to DSA. With the little funding he has, if you read the polls a number of volunteers bailed on him. It will be difficult for anyone to win against an AIPAC-funded Collins without some serious tailwinds and endorsements. He lost Khanna, and just now lost Sanders. How can you win without either of those endorsements?
Turning it over to someone viable in the DSA chapter there (if they exist?) demonstrates a commitment to the working people cause; that it’s not all about HIM,
And if the Maine Dem Party refuses to cooperate with a replacement that DSA chooses? They will be showing their true anti-working class colors. If Platner continues to speak after not reaching such an agreement, even if he doesn’t ultimately win, it will be serving a just cause (like Massie is now, in a different capacity and with a somewhat different philosophical bent…)
If the Maine Dem Party wants to have a Statewide caucus, that’s reasonable.
NOTE: Platner finds Troy Jackson is a suitable replacement.

If the Maine Dem Party wants to run either someone who is not focused on working class issues or is Israel First, Platner should hang tough. I think Platner should make it clear at this point that he is fighting for a good option for the voters.
The most fair way: Statewide caucus. The most suitable replacement: Jackson.
Collins is such a dog, it won’t surprise me if Jackson were to win against her, in spite of a possible late start…

Now that they have made that public, Platner needs to say he won’t step aside until he hears HOW his replacement will be chosen (or cave…)
If they announce an unfair replacement process, the heat will be on the Maine Dem Party. If they announce a fair one, he can say he protected the interests of his followers and step aside…
If Jackson is not picked, many Dem voters will stay home and sit on their hands come election day. I don’t see another candidate in that State that has the same working people bona fides that he does.
PS Watching tapes of Jackson, he _sounds_ authentic, but he is not as striking a speaker as Platner. We just have to work the hand we got. Collins sucks real bad, so he has a chance.
I think Jackson has to give serious consideration to running as a DSA member. All the tells are the Maine Dem Party will refuse to endorse him, while a majority of Platner voters would go for him (being a working man…) By aligning with DSA (I don’t know if there’s a technical reason why he could not,..) that would bring a lot of popular national support to him (if not from the Maine Dem Party politicos, but from Dem working people voters across the country…) and would put more pressure on the Maine Dem Party to do the right thing and usher him in to the ballot.
I see a real freight train collision in the making here: working class non-Israel First voters vs Dems who only do political theater to support the working class (including packing off unlimited monies to Israel…) I would think both sides would rather lose to Collins than concede to each other.
And the working class in Maine have the high ground here, no matter how much Dem Party hacks think they are not entitled.
I think a fantastic litmus test question for the candidates is whether they will fight the NDAA IDF merger with the US military.
State law allows the party to name a replacement if Platner drops out but leaves it largely up to Democrats to decide how that nominee will be chosen, prompting an internal debate over the best course of action is.

I see no technical reason it can’t be done, if there was a mad dash starting on Monday. Same candidates less Platner plus any new ones wanting to run.
By the way: don’t blame it all on Platner! Among other things, the accuser should have come forward sooner.
If she felt it was rape, she should have gone to the ER for emergency contraception. She alleges that Platner was consensually careless -sending an invite mentioning a glute massage, then retracting it, leaving the door open? And then you had Platner’s negligence in getting himself blackout drunk (and we know being blackout drunk doesn’t excuse you from a rape charge…) Don’t get me wrong: I think she really does believe she was raped, and the Dem Party has to show it adheres to a higher standard than the Epstein Party. But this mad dash to fix things has been caused in part due to her quite tardy accusation.
At least there might be time to do a mad dash and have a fair fix that serves democratic principles…
He’s saying he would be fine with a State Convention (which is how Harris should have been done!); but I am skeptical that old-school Dems would be cool with him.
Wow: note Jackson’s honesty in responding to whether he would accept Platner’s endorsement! Many other Party hacks would have given a non-answer…
