POLL: Capitol Building Protest against the Iran War and stopping the US from continuing to enable preemptive Israeli actions

I get that few people read these forums! But I want feedback on the idea, no matter if it is only from a few people. Feel free to post arguments for or against, or suggestions for more productive actions.

Why do it?

Because in a number of ways this is an analogous situation to the Vietnam War being out of control, with the added nuance that our political process has been co-opted by a foreign power. Mere protest did not stop the Vietnam War -but it certainly accelerated its end. We need to stop both a foreign military adventure and the co-option of our political process -or do nothing and commit to being a nihilist. I suspect many who were at the Vietnam protests would show up for it.

Won’t this come off as a “J6” thing?

Not if it’s done nonviolently, the way the vast majority of No Kings actions were done across the country. It would be a good lesson for MAGAs on the right way for civil disobedience -and I would welcome them to come down, but leave their bear spray, tasers, gallows/nooses/guillotines, and zip ties at home! No storming of the Capitol Building -though in theory appointments can be made to visit congress members. Hey, some notable Congress members can even be invited to step outside and make some speeches on US involvement in Israeli military actions! (and a few posterboard cutouts can be made for some who would not show to address constituencies -the same thing that should be done at no-show Town Halls…)

When?

ASAP! There is a No Kings protest being planned for July 17th; fold that effort back into this, ASAP.

Why the Capitol Building? Why not the White House or Pentagon??

Because Israeli enablement will come down to congressional votes; and that is getting influenced by bribery and blackmail. In this matter it will be decided by Congress, not the other branches. Go to the White House? He scurries off to his bunker. And the Pentagon, in this instance, is an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect the bill.

I would propose the protest be a call to “Levitate the Capitol Building”.

Do you think a 1967-style protest around the Capitol Building to call for an end to US involvement in the Iran War is now in order? Come all ideological stripes -except violent ones who would love to see a junta actualized!

Turks segment:

Based on the fact that the vote deadline for the War Powers Resolution discussed in this segment is around July 4th, looks like around July 1st or earlier would be optimal.

Just checked the calendar: Congress is back in session on July 7th, so July 4th would make a lot of sense. The holiday would allow people to make the trek. Those who could crash in DC could be in town for when Congress opens, so they could contact in person their representatives in person. This reduces the possibility of it turning into a violent J6 thing.

Re: inviting Congress people to make an appearance: for those members who in good faith would want to do so, Zoom calls with a projector could be arranged on that Sunday…

Thanks voters for confirming so far that the my idea is credible; anybody voting No, please add a comment on this thread on the problem(s) you see with it…
