Great news!

Playing devil’s advocate: Is this a genuine bid for leadership or just a rebound from her Senate loss? Porter’s great at grilling CEOs, but running California is about complex governance, not soundbites. Her style may excite progressives, but could alienate moderates and swing voters. Is she ready or just staying relevant?
She appears to have the intellectual capacity to do it; I think she’s taking on any opportunities that come her way, and not waiting for the corporate owners of the Dem Party to offer her assistance -because she won’t get it from them!
It sure would be nice if Sanders did a tour stop for her; I think her approach is somewhat refreshing, as opposed to Newsom’s consensus building with MAGA bros. That might be quasi-valid if you are running for President, but governor of California? Yes, there are MAGAs there, but nothing in comparison to Indies and Blue Dogs. And now, after this tariff fiasco? They don’t even have much of MAGAs there now. She fights for workers, and that is something MAGA workers will always respect.
And has Sanders done a stop for Mamdani in NYC? The Dem primary there is on June 24th.
It appears AOC is haggling with him??
California Gov. Newsom tells cities to ban homeless encampments
Solving a problem? Or just doing a cosmetic move??
You need:
planned communities for low-cost microhousing; stakeholder participation in the building of units, with community watches required of the residents.
to bar private equity from buying residential (something Turks has repeatedly stated…)
steep warehousing taxes that take effect after a year of vacancy (so landlords have a chance to remodel…), along with steep penalties for “sockpuppet rentals” for those fraudulently trying to claim occupancy.
Do all that and give it a year to work, and I myself wouldn’t object to ordinances against encampments. Camping sucks; it’s not safe; you are never completely clean. People want housing, and all your system is doing is only making completely unaffordable and unsustainable bouji housing available.
Ordinances against microhousing construction is driven by simple greed; if not the greed of private equity, it’s the greed of the owners of McMansions looking to flip. A community of microhouses drives down real estate prices -as it should! And people looking to speculate use the red herrings of crime and a lack of planning as an excuse to constrain their construction, which as I pointed out above can be addressed.
Serious warehousing taxes could take effect much quicker than the construction of microhousing communities. You need ALL the points I outlined above since it is such a serious problem now…
