I’ve been thinking about the scandal where Colbert was prevented by CBS lawyers from airing his interview with James Talarico (though I gather Colbert did post this interview on youtube). I think this speaks to the difficulty that political candidates have in getting their word out, and that we consumers have in finding information about our candidates, whether those candidates are at a small local scale, all the way on up to hearing good interviews of our candidates at the national scale.
I’m thinking that the TYT producers have given thought to how many candidates and other figures they want to interview (or not interview) but I wonder if TYT can play a bit more of a role in posting interviews with certain candidates given that it is so hard sometimes for candidates to raise enough money to get the attention they need. In a well-functioning democracy with a healthy press, I don’t think it would cost quite so much money to run a campaign. Isn’t the press supposed to be working for us voters, in a sense?
On a related note, I’d like to see more interviews of, or critical analysis of, the kingmakers (both the party officials and the financiers) behind the scenes at the Republican, Democratic, Libertarian and other parties.
