Many Progs will probably be dismissive of the Catholic Church since they oppose abortion; they will see it as an organization stuck in the Middle Ages.
But there is something amusing to note that is going on here. Pope Francis was definitely a tilt towards the interests of the poor. Now that this pope has indicated who his hero is -Pope Leo XIII- Americans and Europeans are starting to find out about a history of working class struggle which has been forgotten. Leo the 13th wrote a tract on worker rights (I have read it…); it was written at a time when the SIXTY HOUR WORK WEEK (!) had been won by many in Labor. Through the early 20th Century on to FDR’s New DEAL and NLRB, working rights and conditions were improved after many hard won fights had been waged.
Since the Great Offshoring of the Clinton era starting in the 1990s (and carried on by Dems and Repubs in the Bush and Obama admins…), the Dem Party has turned its back on that cause.
Now MAGA and Indie workers are being betrayed by Bunker Boy -if not with no-strings-attached H1Bs for the tech bro’ monopolists (besides Musk’s advocacy, now Thiel’s ambassador Vance just got back from India from “great” trade negotiations…), then when they go to buy “quaint” (?) groceries.
I hope Americans relearn the history of worker struggle and what it takes to get treated fairly. Americans could learn a thing or two from the way French labor goes about it. I hope American workers can give a rude awakening to the Dems as they hope for a pendulum swing back to them at the midterms, expecting they won’t have to offer workers dick-squat.
An alliance on Independent ballots is the only way to pull it off. Anything done inside the Dem Party to improve the lot of workers will be sabotaged by the corporate owners of the Dem Party (what Turks calls “The Donor Class”…)
