The Dark Ages

Adolf Hitler grabbed power with the Enabling Act of 1933.Soon after he would be Chancellor and the power of the 3rd Reich manifest over Germany. It took about 10 years for Donald Trump to poison the governance and people of the United States ; he has not killed millions of people like Hitler and Stalin but he has yielded death and power over those he does not like. I bring this up as a senior citizen ruminating my journey since I was born in 1953. I grew up respecting our president and the working of our government laid out by the Constitution and Bill of Rights . Now , that framework has been hijacked and shat upon by donors, the elite and morally repugnant people that care nothing about the rule of law and basic rights. I keep thinking about the humanism, the scientific progress, the architecture and art that came out of the Renaissance , especially in Italy. The wealthy financed public projects , financed improvements in city-states and a renewal of humanism swept through the ages. Today , the wealthy despise anything. that doesn’t satisfy their greed , and the hell with anybody else. I really thought that by this time of life that America would be celebrating 250 years of progress and be proud as a nation. But no, we are sick and weak. We have been taken over bad decisions by politicians, the government and the electorate. Decisions that have thrust us into fascism. The only way out is to hold those responsible , having ignored laws and treaties, using the UN as a cudgel of power and the government as a weapon against its own people. The new iteration of progressive democrats must throw the book at every one of these traitors. In our history, there have been those with lesser crimes sentenced to death , and that is fine by me.I will continue to struggle adding my voice because I want to fall back in love with the America that shows promise for everybody. I guess that’s the medical care they expect Americans to have at this point…

I couldn’t agree more Jack, and it’s frightening how much it has accelerated over the last year. I hope there are enough of us that remember or have learned the lessons of history that we can work together and turn this around, and when the nation reaches the 300 year mark it will be a time of celebration again, instead of the time we’re in that calls for a reckoning for these crooks and traitors as you suggest.

Beautifully articulated, my friend.
