The Strokes protested the genocide against Iran and Gaza and it was beautiful

This isn’t ultra important, but I found it inspirational when so many of my favorite bands have either said nothing (The Cure) or made statements more sympathetic to Israelis and said nothing about the genocide (U2, most of Radiohead). Another band I love that’s been outspoken demanding a ceasefire is Pulp.

Anyway here’s The Strokes performance that kept getting taken down by Coachella that first week; the protest images are during the choruses.

The lyrics refer to colonialism and exploitation by the rich (nations)
”'Cause this is my bank’s advice

[…]We’re gonna give it back to you some other day”

And we take what we like from them

And then say, ‘What do you want from me?!’

And even pedophilic rape:
”Thinking of a sad day

Playing with the new toys

Looking at the sad boys”

And the reasons behind revolution:
”Don’t wait so long

Way too long

They wait too long

I can’t stay awake so long

You never wait for some

Other generation

I’ll wait somewhere

Alone

Get it in your head!

Get out of my way!

What side you standing on?!”
