According to a statement from the Trump campaign, the 1-Y classification stemmed from Trump’s having bone spurs in both heels
Bush Jr’s dad got him a noncombat role in the Guard; Cheney did a ton of college deferments; Trump did numerous college deferments, and when those got used up, he finally resorted to the excuse of bone spurs in his feet. Uhh…gee: are there any Xrays from his “fantastic” presidential exams confirming that? No?? Well, that’s surprising, right?
And then the Swiftboaters for Bush wanted to have an argument about Kerry’s EXACT location in Indochina, but he was getting shot at with machine gun fire. Those Swiftboaters were and still are a disgrace to all veterans everywhere for glossing over that fact.
My guess? An embargo of Israel by Europe and other countries was in the pipe, in response to their Gaza atrocities. They knew they were not going to continue to function with that in place, so this is a way to goad the Repubs and Dems into more unfettered spending, to keep Israel running.
When the Dems inevitably and dead-wrongly run to Israel’s aid, this is a good time to give it up on efforts to reshape the Dem Party. Both the Repubs and the Dems have way too many bad associations in the minds of voters with their brands. You need a new branded alliance running as House Independents. You will not have enough money to prevail against the non-pro-working class funded by AIPAC and all the monopoly corporations. And they cannot play procedural tricks to keep you running as an Independent, as they have with Hogg and Sanders (they can challenge petitions, but if you start early enough, it’s difficult for them to block that…)
There are a number of outstanding Dems, and credible Repubs you can count on one hand; but the parties as a whole are train wrecks at this point. At the moment you might see Dems as the white knights given their efforts in California to stave off a junta, but you will not like them once they run to Israel’s aid after this unprovoked attack.
The Dems will first try to spin this as solely the failure of Team Trump diplomacy -but just wait for the congressional vote counts when it comes time for more aid to Israel, after embargoes against them start piling up!
Anybody arguing that this was needed as a preemptive measure, given nuclear being involved: when the Soviet Union detonated their first atom bomb, did the US bomb them??
I’ll grant you they considered it, but they never did; they figured they would try a carrot and stick approach of diplomacy and cold war…
Wait for it: any congress member speaking up for a pause on aid for Israel after this asymmetric action will be a target for assassination. Follow the Nutanyahoo+Mossad preemptive logic down its rabbithole, and there is not a smidgen of doubt that you will end up there…
