The first 8 minutes of this 47 minute video contain a solid succinct breakdown of some of the basics of which parties are in power, what the differences are in the US and Israeli voting systems, how the Israeli electorate has swung to the right particularly with the influx of Ukrainian and Soviet Immigrants, the history of the Labor party as it went from dominating Israeli politics for decades to no longer existing as of 2024, and some comments on Netanyahu’s strengths and how he stays in power. He notes somewhere that neither Netanyahu’s party nor any other party has anything resembling enough support to have a majority. That’s not how Israeli’s system works. The system works by coalitions and compromise. However, there has been a rise in anti-Arab parties. [I haven’t listened beyond the first 8 minutes or so, other than to hear discussion of unrelated topics.]
He concludes that for the October election, keeping in mind the chaos of those opposed to Netanyahu, don’t bet money on change.
fwiw, I knew a fair amount of this before watching, thanks to some pro-Palestinian activists who provided a presentation a few months ago making an attempt at a realistic assessment of the upcoming election. Anyway, I found it valuable, and I think the TYT community will also.
