They have no reason to, when their corporate owners can comfortably sit out the Repubs for 4…8…12…whatver years.
This Jeffries interview here suggests they can do more for the working class. Don’t make me laugh; they were told by Sanders et.al. (me too!) that it was not going to be enough BEFORE election day! They did jack shit then, why would they change tact now? And this is after it was even previously done their Clinton way in 2016 -the EXACT same failed recipe used in this election cycle!! They will rope-a-dope ANY effort by the working class to start getting pro-working class candidates balloted by petition [as Independents…]
PS There are going to be A LOT of posts here! This will be a good test of this forum software…
This exposes a brutal truth: the Democratic Party is complicit in preserving a broken system that serves corporate masters, not the people. The populist energy behind movements like Sanders’ and AOC’s highlights an undeniable hunger for real change—policies like Medicare for All and wealth redistribution aren’t just ideas; they’re survival strategies for millions. Why are we still begging establishment politicians for scraps? It’s time to organize independently, bypassing the two-party stranglehold altogether. What would a true working-class insurgency look like, and how do we build it now?
I can’t help but think that if we start now, Democrats will have less room to whine about us splitting the vote. I still like the mock-debates idea: get guests who will come on the show to answer moderator questions. Even if they don’t want to run for president really, they can still represent the policies. Also, I like the idea of state profiles, especially the ones that are considered liberal like MA and CA. Alongside that, state profiles from “conservative” states that use programs that are considered “socialist” in the mainstream. Today, I was reminded of how the MA wealth tax was used to provide free school meals. I had that decades ago in TX! I think we have to present one-stop information. Hence, the state profile idea. People aren’t able to keep up with it all and if we do search, it’s like you need to make it your PT job to get the full picture. TYTSports journalist Rick has great one-stop videos. I saw one recently highlighting Bill Burr’s take on things. Way to paint a picture!
No, you’re not; you’re simply owned. If you make more than $125K and you work for a multinational, vote Dem. If you are pro worker, all I can say is stay tuned. Both Parties have been co-oped by corporations and plutocrats…
Bernie: start your committee to safeguard an alliance of Independents; or are you afraid of becoming unpopular when a candidate sabotages working class objectives and the committee needs to bounce them?
So this thread has been quiet because the Dems have wanted to avoid a discussion of their complicity in getting Trump elected. But I think we will now see more articles out there -especially if a well-managed Independent alliance forms, which so far Sanders continues to refuse to set up (and presumably walk away from…)
OK Jim; what precisely are the programs the Dems will put on the table for workers? Will they horsetrade a corporate tax rate amnesty for job retention and/or accredited education or training benefits? Will they offer a real tax-free amnesty for overtime?? (as opposed to the egregiously capped one offered by the Repubs…) Will there be rollbacks of BS “Right to Work” laws? What substantive steps will be pursued to abet the escalation of housing costs? (Bar private equity from residential housing purchases? Pass laws requiring that residential properties be heavily taxed after they have been warehoused for more than one year, along with serious penalties for “sockpuppet” rentals? Pass laws to permit planned microhousing where it is barred for the sole purpose of escalating the prices of large residences?) A “civic service” (cleaning up pollution, assisting TSA, etc.) for high school grads which gives them free accredited education (applicable to ANY accredited educational institution) for up to 2 years? (and a one year military service option, for those wanting a faster-track…) Laws to curtail H1B visa abuse, by requiring pay to be the same as the average for American workers? (as had been suggested by Sanders…)
And James: considering the Dem Party has been delinquent on many worker issues for the past 20+ years, spare me having the Dems throw out a breadcrumb or two. When Harris was running, what was her grand offer? Oh, yeah; a modest tax cut. What a consolation, once you lost your job or can’t make ends meet NOW.
Overtime: I must say: the idea of REAL no taxes for overtime (or a very high cap, allowing for up to, say, 30 hours/week…) is a fantastic one (as opposed to the bread-and-circuses fantasy of no taxes for people making less than $150K…) That would do a lot to stimulate productivity. Ever since federal withholding was introduced, America only punished people who worked overtime!
Microhousing: Its challenge is that since it is inexpensive, it is often abused as a cover for criminal enterprises. So you would need to provide communal sewage and electric; and stakeholder participation of prospective tenants in both the assistance of building the units, and policing them afterwards with obligatory community watches.
