Wally Rashid: Massie and Khanna Team Up to Block U.S.-Israel Defense Tech Provision (link…)

That’s a good link, thanks for posting it.

I went there and my representative did pretty well, but she had voted for these two bills that are supposedly trying to protect Jews from anti-semitism.

I called her office (and followed up with a written submission) and expressed that I suspect she was trying to protect a persecuted minority, but in my view as a Jew (albeit an atheist one) who is her constituent, and who is more or less supportive of her voting record on other matters, these sorts of measures are really a pretext for the US government to abrogate rights of free speech, among other things. I also think, in the long run, they will lead to even more hatred of Jews since they appear to carve out special treatment and laws to protect Jews (note that I have spent precisely zero time reading the particulars of these two bills, so if I am mistaken, please someone correct me as to what they contain). Do we have special laws to protect other particular minorities?

And, I have to add, what is legally wrong with exercising free speech and being anti-semitic? I’m proud that I live in a country where a person is free to express bigoted things, whether against my group or any other. They should go ahead and, within the law, get it out of their system. I think the Trump administration is taking the idea of expressing anti-semitism as somehow, without discussion, illegal. It should not be, as long as it is just free speech. And if it comes to the point where a person is not just saying stupid bigoted things, but is engaging in actual forceful conduct, or threatens the use of force, or engages in exhortations to others to engage in force, then that is already readily prosecutable under existing law. So, why conflate the matter and get into ambiguous territory where just expressing anti-Jewish bigotry may or may not be “legal”. It should be completely legal, as are all other forms of bigotry expression (as far as I know).

And, let me edit hastily to add:

No, Cenk is not being in any way anti-semitic, in my fallible opinion, as a Jew. On the contrary, I have really appreciated his ability and Ana’s and the other hosts’ ability to parse their comments to be critical of Israel while at the same time not engaging in petty bigotry. I may not always fully agree with everything they say about Israel, but in my opinion they are far from bigoted. In my previous comments above where I tried to push back against these bills and measures that are being introduced, I am just trying to add the point that, even if someone were bigoted, so what? Is that illegal? No. Should it be? In my opinion: no

The atrocities the IDF are doing are just as bad now as anything the Nazis would have done. Raping prisoners with dogs, using overtightened zip ties on prisoners and then running them to provoke amputations of their hands, sharpshooting at toddlers…

STFU about “blood libel”, zionazis!
