I have to admit. Since Trump took office I have lost interest in watching the news. I feel like I already know this is a dumpster fire so I’m ready with my popcorn in hand to watch it burn the fuck down. I really don’t care anymore. I don’t talk politics or religion with people. I’m not trying to convince anyone of progressive positions. I honestly don’t give a shit about this country anymore.
On the flip side I must admit I do like seeing AOC and Bernie joining forces to capitalize on the moment. Uncle Joe did a good thing by saying America is moving toward an Oligarchy and I hope more people pick up the microphone and speak out about it. But if I’m honest, I have a genuine hope that the conservatives fuck this country up. I think I’m finally understanding George Carlin’s feelings about how he didn’t give a shit either.
All I do now is glance at the headlines on google news and watch the financial news (which is pretty much the only real news we get these days) and do my own thing. Am I the only one that feels this way?

sciguy24 , listen , I know where you are coming from because I have been in that dark space many times. I’m almost 72 and experienced the tumult of the 60’s which was sometimes worse. I would never try to minimize your pain and many people are experiencing similar feelings. Back then, there was no social media and there were 3 networks that supplied the news. But even so, the zeitgeist was palpable. Today , I have to limit my exposure to news and give time to myself. Remember , though, that almost half the country voted purposefully for Trump. That ignorance , shortsightedness , and stupidity only won by a small margin. There are many reasons { mostly bias by media } but a few thousand votes could have swung the election. Many people that could have voted neglected their civic duty , didn’t . Americans chose this, so we have to back serious progressives that want to create positive change . We cannot rely on the establishment to change-they are bought and paid for. So , please take care of yourself and since you mentioned it , I’ll be rewatching some George Carlin videos along with Bill Burr . I’m sure you know him , too. I’ll see you soon , Jack

Thanks Jack! The fact that so many people voted for him only reinforces my desire to see him and Elon completely screw this place up. This country only learns when people hit a brick wall. And I hope it hurts. They jumped on the trump train and I hope it takes them right over a cliff.

Totally see where your coming from. Ive been there for years now, about the whole world in general, but was also brought up to pretty much just hate america and its people because of bush. Then learned its literally a minority that are bad. You just gotta consider the good people who dont deserve the stress thatd come with a fkn apocalypse with having to farm etc . Our ancestors apperently “faught the war to end all wars” (although it was a load of shit they still said it and those who faught and died believed it) so i find it so disrespectful that our leaders are starting new ones.
Idk man back 10 years ago i was keen for the mad max world and was fit enough to survive it, but now i consider my mum and millions of others would pass within a week without their meds and its not worth it.
If we were billionaires would we be fighting back against elon ? Probably. So its all a matter of perspective and opportunity.

I’m with you, Jack. We gotta change the system through a strong populist movement. Our elected officials won’t do it for us. As you pointed out, they are totally captured by corporate interests. I disagree on a couple of points, however.
Trump received 77 million votes. Yep, that’s depressing, but there are 340 million folks in the country. So less than 1/4 actually voted for the orange idiot. The other 3/4 do not deserve what we are being subjected too.
Which brings me to my second point. Imagine you are conducting interviews to fill a vacant position. Instead of talking about how hiring him would benefit your company, one of the applicants spends his interview trashing the other other candidates. Even if what he says about them is true, would you hire him?
I don’t blame those who didn’t vote. This is 3rd consecutive election (Some would say the 4th) where neither party has given them a candidate who actually wants to serve the people. And the one candidate who did want to serve was kneecapped twice by the very party that keeps serving up these choices.
For me, it is the establishment that is neglecting it’s civic duty, not the voters. The right suppresses as many votes as they can, while the left takes our votes for granted, then joins the right in ignoring our needs. When you emphasized add the funding of genocide to the equation, is it any surprise that they have lost faith in the system?

Tony, I totally. agree with you . But consider the mainstream media is complicit in this. The lies and misinformation are regurgitated 24/7. Who has time to back check every assertion made that someone working 8 hours a day , comes home and puts on the news while cooking dinner. I know , I was like that. That’s the extant that people hear news without fully understanding what is truly going on. That media exposure reinforces your preconcieved political views established by family, perhaps growing up. I’m not saying most voters are like this, there are many savvy enough to understand what is going on. But you are right , there is voter suppression which is abhorrent. But many vote because they falsely believe that Trump is the answer because of their thinking that establishment Democrats and Republicans don’t help them. That part is true , the establishment politicians are beholden to donors and not the people they supposedly represent. Unfortunately, Trump is a chronic liar and a criminal which the Dems rarely counter and the MAGA crowd essentially is a cult. Now the shift towards plutocracy and fascism is on steroids in only 2 months. Bless Bernie, because he was kneecapped twice , yet he is still out there being the 21st Century Paul Revere. I don’t understand why our former Presidents are not out there everyday on social media, town halls , TV voicing we are in times of Constitutional Crises , and this is what citizens must do . Great to hear from you Tony , hope to see you and Cenk at the coming town hall. Jack

Tony , my response part 2; I just found out this morning that Republicans used voter suppression in swing states that could have turned the election if the votes weren’t thrown out. There is so much dishonesty on the other side because , frankly , they can’t win on policy and merit. I think Trump will absolutely try to manipulate the midterms and will do so illegally. At that time , what are the courts going to do? I’m so sick of this shit , it’s affecting my health . In a way , I hope there is a groundswell from the populace { non-violent ] to get these thugs out of office . They are now making plans to bomb Iran , which, by the way , Trump destroyed the treaty for nuclear weapons. Iran is not a threat. Anyway , I hope you are well. Jack

I’m with you 100%, my brother. Yeah, malpractice by the mainstream media plays a huge role in this scenario. Their duplicity has cost them the trust of the people, making them easy targets for Trump’s “enemy of the people” rhetoric. In fact, a member of the New York Times top editorial once apologized to Bernie for basically smothering his campaign. They know exactly what they are doing.
On top of that, they are so freakin’ lazy! I’ve forgotten her name, but an ABC correspondent once asked Laura Trump about her father-in-law being being sued by the federal government for housing discrimination. Laura responded that the case was settled with no admission of guilt. That is a lie. Trump’s lawyer admitted on the record that they “failed to live up to” the requirements of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. If I went to traffic court and apologized for failing to live up to the requirement of driving within the speed limit, that’s a guilty plea.
Trump was ordered to study that legislation and adjust his practices accordingly. He was also instructed out a full page ad in multiple New York papers, including the New York Times, inviting Black and Latino renters to apply to at Trump properties. Now if a rando like me knows that, how does a puling a multi-million dollar salary as a “news” anchor not aware of it?
And I hear you on the trauma. When I’m in the gym, I try to keep my level or looking down. If I look up, there’s a story about one of the many, awful things this guy is doing. I instantly get that burning, gut-wrenching feeling, 10 times worse than the first time he was in office. It hurts so much, I have to shut it out after a while. I come on here, have these discussions, then you don’t see me for 2 days. But the good news, my friend, is that we are fighting back! Love ya, brother.

Hey Tony , thanks. You are right , we are going to fight back . I just heard that 3 professors at Yale are leaving the country as they are being targeted. One, Timothy Snyder , wrote ‘ON TYRANNY’ , which I have. He is the leading authority on fascism and has decried Trump as a dictator and threat . Stay safe , we are in dark times Take care, brother Jack
