"It’s you I like,
It’s not the things you wear,
It’s not the way you do your hair
But it’s you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys
They’re just beside you.
But it’s you I like
Every part of you.
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you’ll remember
Even when you’re feeling blue
That it’s you I like,
It’s you yourself
It’s you.
It’s you I like."

What’s weird is I never liked him as a kid. A grown man looking at me singing saying he loved me, liked me, cared about me was a little odd. It even made me feel odd when my parents said those things to me. It took getting older to truly appreciate him. I think he believed his role in life was to sow seeds of love into whoever was watching. At 43 yoa I see that as my role too. A strategic word of encouragement or kindness at the right time and place in someone’s life can completely change their life and the lives of anyone who comes into contact with them. It’s powerful! I want the satisfaction of knowing I made the difference in someone’s life.
