I would love to see effort towards building bridges, strengthening friendships, conducting interviews, and/or mending relationships with other online left media. I don’t want to bring drama into the thread, and I know some relationships are possibly too far gone, but I really do miss the days where there was more solidarity between TYT and other left media (I’ve been watching since the beginning). Nothing wrong with disagreements, or evolving beliefs, but it just feels like there’s been too much bad blood and fracturing of the left this past year. We’re stronger together and we need all hands on deck for the Trump admin. Kyle, Krystal Ball, Francesca (really hope the bridge with her isn’t burned), etc. Would love to see more conversations with people like this.
I think the problem here has been the label “Left.” Too many Democrats, who are really “Right leaning Centrists,” for the most part, have been calling themselves the “Left,” when, in fact, you are not truly on the “Left” until you begin each argument with a discussion on the Evils of Capitalism and how there is no discussion of Equality without, first and foremost, Economic Equality. There is also a component here at TYT and other outlets on the supposed “Left,” which doesn’t get talked about, and that is “Class.” There is a big difference in the interests of those who are truly poor and uneducated and those who are educated, working, and essentially have most of their basic needs met. With that in mind, I think that the Bridge has truly been burned.
I def want TYT to tour more town hall meets nationwide.
I want to see an interview of Timothy Snyder (I believe it’s PhD and/or DPhil). It is not that much to ask.
I would love for TYT to be able to build out their applications to be more user friendly. This discussion board is the perfect example, I feel like I’m replying to a blog post in 2001! Making it easier for the TYT crew and TYT army to interact will make it way easier for us to share local news that might not be getting the proper coverage, share our Operation Hope stories, and even connect with our favorite hosts (John, John, and Mr. Iadarola). I’ve been trying to get in touch with TYT to try and set up an interview with a progressive Senate candidate here in Oklahoma without any success. A modernized TYT website and app would greatly help alleviate these issues and create a much broader sense of community within the TYT Army. Thanks much!
Sounds like you are looking or something like the TYT Official Discord. We have regular chat channels, Voice/Video channels, and also Forum style channels. You can give it a look here: TYT Official - Discord Servers
great suggestion.
Over time, TYT has arguably been lacking in how they have handled the discussion areas for members and perhaps for the broader public. Issues to note or mull over:
-
There are actually two (at least) discussion sites. The other one is here:
Discord
Does it divide the community to have two different places to go? Is there robust discussion on both? Have they achieved much better success on the discord site? I don’t know. There are also discussions on youtube underneath the videos. Not sure about other spots. Does TYT do patreon? -
Discoverability of both remains botched at best. If I go to TYT.com innocently look for discussion (my main reason for going there, other than a need on occasion to find if they have done a video clip on a certain topic) can I find it there? Only if I happen to be lucky enough to go here:
Operation Hope - TYT.com
where it says:
“… Join the Discussion Board by clicking on the image above
…”
(references Operation Hope)
as far as I know, that brings you to this board, and still does not tell you about the discord board. Heck, when I joined, in order to find this board, I had to write in and ask (IIRC) and finally I was able to remember “discuss.tyt.com”
-
I do think there has been some reading of this forum by TYT folks, and I have had one or two responses here to posts I’ve made, but I still don’t know which pathway they prefer if we really need to get in touch with them about something. (Note I don’t expect the hosts to spend hours per week reading through TYT discussion boards, but I do think it would be an improvement if they would make it clear, if we really want to communicate something, what is the preferred pathway?)
-
It’s not the same issue, but I still think there is some less-than-productive schizophrenia between joining the youtube channel, joining at tyt.com and joining at patreon.. Maybe that has been cleared up? I mention here because I think it ends up influencing which discussion area you may be prone to? I do see something on patreon, so maybe that also has some discussion pathway to interacting with the hosts and employees. Is this the actual verified TYT network? You can tell I don’t watch the show that much, maybe they clear up some of these questions regularly on the show itself.
Anyway, with all that said, I think participation on the boards with fellow viewers is a reason I am a member (I’m not even sure if membership is required in order to participate in the discussion, I just see it as somewhat intertwined for me).
Hi! I am the Community Director at TYT. Let me know if I can be helpful.
Thanks, good to have the communication. I think people have expressed themselves on various points here in this thread, but I can briefly expand on my suggestions around making the discussion boards be more discoverable. I have run a discussion board before and it can (in some situations) be difficult to figure out where the lines should be drawn as to where it should be hosted, how the path to the area(s) should be made clear, whether it takes away from discussion in another area, and establishing realistic goals for the internal team to interact with the broader listener community. Still, I think that TYT could review where it stands on some of this and possibly make a bit more progress.
Lots of good ideas. I think it’s asking a lot for the TYT crew to step outside of what the network is, and has been, by becoming political activists. Cenk does more than most ever would, and his efforts (along with ALL who support him) are absolutely heroic, but some people in TYT just want to be journalists or presenters and shouldn’t feel pressured to do more.
I’d LOVE to see TYT be able to take on a little more support crew and add a weekend show. So much happens over the weekend, and a lot of people have anxiety about being caught unaware. I’m confident there would be massive support. Weekday time constraints also play a part in suppressing views and involvement.
Not asking TYT to do anything different, just more show, American heroes!

Stop trying to do so many projects at the same time - Ana is right when she says Cenk is trying to do too much, he should narrow the focus. The primary goal in my opinion should be getting money out of politics. Revitalize that project and try to bring the whole left on board.

Get off Twitter, it has ruined many relationships and left aliances over 5-10% disagreement that could have been handled privately.
