Why is this discussion area not discoverable from the main TYT landing page?

This question is not rhetorical. I’d like to know why the site administrators are, in effect, hiding this discussion board.

Do I have it wrong? If so, where, on the main landing page (or anywhere else on the site for that matter) can I find a link to this area? I have had to memorize discuss.tyt.com to find this area, and each time I have to type it in manually.

Is there something under “Operation Hope”? Ok, but where, and how is it (and why is it?) that the site administrator expects folks to guess at this?

Again, I may have it wrong, but I have not been able to figure it out, so maybe someone can help.

I could be wrong, but I think they link to this on youtube. I had a very bad experience with getting shadow-banned on youtube because I had shared facts that the Biden ticket had horrible prospects (the Biden/Harris media campaign was EVIDENTLY working with someone inside youtube/google…)

But you’re right: there should be a link to it. There’s also a disqus; there was talk of integrating the authentication to this forum. The thing I like about this forum over disqus is you don’t HAVE TO register to see a post; you can share ideas with others without the “friction” of registration.

I post a lot here because:

  • I agree a lot with Cenk; I share his anger

  • posts rarely need to get redacted (though that could change if this place gets popular…) The only nuisance to date are long AI posts, which appear to be an occasional effort to cause disinterest in topics that the people paying the bots don’t want to see get legs…

It used to be linked on the TYT Home page. I have a feeling that; just like I did till now, they thought it still was. I have let my higher up know about it. Hopefully they’ll fix it

Ah; maybe they were toying with the idea of having disqus replace it. But I would point out to them: please keep it. When you share an interesting post with a friend and they will have to register to read it, trust me: they won’t…

I received a partial reply from them a month or two ago, I think it was something about registering for Discord, and they have some of the same posts there? I don’t think this was a bad thing, but for some reason I just didn’t want to go over there at this time. Notwithstanding all of that, I’m not sure what they are thinking in downplaying their own discussion board (and the resources it takes). Access to this board, on the site, is 40% of the reason I donated money to them (I actually don’t recall if I had to donate to get access, but in my mind, it’s part of what I want), but I still couldn’t find it for a week or two when I donated awhile back.

One theory: disqus is easier for them to moderate, so they are encouraging it more? But as I said, I think disqus does not accommodate posts being open, transparent, and easy to access (i.e.: NO registration is required…)

It does look like they’ve made discuss.tyt.com properly discoverable here:

It’s possible I’ve missed something as to how this was displayed before, and it’s not as though they’ve made it that easy to find… it’s still buried about halfway down a sub-page, but it does appear to be progress.

I should add though:

My original question was why this discussion area is not [clearly] discoverable from the main TYT landing page, and it is still not [clearly, directly] discoverable form the TYT landing page, and we still have no answer as to why not.

It’s under Operation Hope - TYT.com

It’s also on the homepage navigation under MORE

Where under “More”?

I see Operation Hope but not TYT Forums

Operation Hope takes you to the landing page and the discussion board is under the calendar

“… Where under “More”?
[…]
I see Operation Hope but not TYT Forums…”

Exactly. It is not clearly discoverable directly from the landing page, and requires clicking on something called “Operation Hope” which the uninitiated user has no reason at all to believe will lead them to a discussion area.

From there, even at the landing page for Operation Hope, it is not immediately clear that the discussion area is to be found there.

I will work with our team on this. Thanks for the input.

Ok, I hope you are able to progress this matter. It has been lingering for a long time.

If they do decide to put themselves in the shoes of end users who are here for community discussion, and realize that they need to up their game about the discoverability of this page, then I also suggest:

  • make sure registration for participating in the forums is as hassle-free as discovery. (I can’t remember if this was an issue, but I think it may have been).

  • consider making the forums (or some of them?) available as a feature for paying subscribers and donors only. This is actually probably a bad idea, but Cenk has been so relentless with calls for funding that I want to offer it as a scraping-the-bottom-of-the-barrel idea to mull over. It’s entirely dependent though on TYT getting its act together on hassle-free discovery/registration for the forums though. One shouldn’t bill for something that is a pain in the neck to find and so treated as a less important aspect of things. And even if they did try to do this, I am not sure it’s a good idea to cut off all forum areas to non-payers.

Another spot to discuss these issues and topics is the TYT Official Discord. We have over 4300 members over there and not just forums but chat rooms and Voice Channels. We’ve tried to setup our Forums section to resemble these forums. We also have little game nights on Wednesdays(Cards) and Fridays(Jackbox Games).

One easy step was made - added the discussion board to the Operation Hope (Operation Hope - TYT.com) page in a more recognizable way. But more to come…

Thanks, I have signed up for the discord server. I realize I had the chance awhile back, but for whatever reason at the time I was not into it.

I think your teams should mull over some more where you want to go with this, so that you can make good decisions about how to create and foster these two different discussion communities that you have created. Shouldn’t the discord discussion area be discoverable from the TYT landing page also?

Participating in a discussion community is a significant investment of time and effort for those of us who do it. This is not to say we don’t enjoy it, but it may not be ideal to

  • keep the community(ies) non-discoverable (after all, I would love it if more viewers were drawn to this area and signed up and started communicating with all of us)
  • it is perhaps not ideal to have this bifurcation… two different discussion areas? Well, now it feels like I am getting a little bit too much in TYT business, I am grateful for the effort at decent admin/moderation. Still, I do think there’s that constructive possibility of possibly monetizing some of the discussion? I don’t know. I wouldn’t bother about it, but TYT seems aggressive about funding.

Good stuff, thanks for implementing that. I hope you are able to make this area clearly discoverable soon on the main landing page.

PS: now that it’s more clear to me about the Discord discussion area, I think the same questions come up as to the discoverability of the discord discussion area. Will TYT want to make it discoverable from the main landing page and the Operation Hope landing page, as with this discussion area? Is there any reason not to? It seems like you’re trying to develop both areas? The only reason I could think of that you might hesitate is that there may be some reluctance to have these two parallel universes where people are not really all communiting fully with each other. I don’t have the answer to that, but once you have mulled this over with the team, if you do decide to continue to promote both areas, then I suggest immediately also make the Discord discussion area discoverable from the same spots as this discussion area.

Also, the TYT main landing page arguably should be discoverable from discuss.tyt.com. Right now it is not, as far as I can tell. Yes, I know, some internet-savvy people can just type in the URL www.tyt.com, but not everyone is oriented toward using the internet that way, they just want a link, and there are plenty of times in my browser on my phone that I struggle to find out what exact link I am on.
