I guess a milepost on the way to a full embargo. Considering civilians are dying there each day, I would have rather seen an all-out embargo. What’s the logic here? “You are denying ALL food and shelter to a civilian population based on race; so we will suspend trade concessions”?? (as opposed to all trade…) Wait and see if it has results? I am seeing a viewpoint online that recognizing Palestine doesn’t mean much since it’s now a shambles. I think this viewpoint is mistaken -it’s a big deal. Once you have an acknowledgement of Palestine existing, it sets up the ability to embargo Israel, similar to the way South Africa had been embargoed.
Israel knows this, and is freaking. It doesn’t matter now that you have one of the most powerful countries on your side. Try running a country when so many countries will deny you access to essential resources. And tariffing ALL those aligned countries will NOT be an option for Trump!
The only issue now is getting an embargo started versus more civilians dying each day in Gaza. I know some countries that have recognized Gaza will be thinking: “Maybe Israel will get the memo now!” Unless the NUTanyahoo faction is thrown out, they will not, An embargo should be put in place by yesterday…
What if a pledge was drafted for CIOs/CTOs/CEOs[1] to sign that would commit to get off of Oracle and move to postgres? (in, say, 2 years??)
And what if a boycott was commenced of companies refusing to sign the pledge after having been sent it after, say, 14 days?
To do this requires the following:
A prestigious activist organization to sponsor it who can enlist noteworthy technical specialists to rebut any public fraudulent excuses made as to why it’s not possible (such as Bruce Momjian -link…- or any other technical spokespeople he deigns as technically qualified and noteworthy…);
legal advisors who can craft the pledge, so as to not allow any wiggle room for signers to escape it by means of a loophole;
choosing the companies to target that would be most susceptible to the pressure of their consumers (especially those consumers who have had enough of Israel running the US to the detriment of the lives of Americans and/or Palestinian civilians -not engaging in violence, of course…); and
some funds to promote it online (because as soon as Larry’s minions see this getting traction, they will try and kill the baby in the crib!)
