It may come down to self preservation for her. She keeps crapping on the left but att the end of the day she may have no choice but to unite with the left just to remain relevant in politics as she has alienated a large part of her party..

I agree but she should not bring culture stuff into this and the left shouldn’t either. As President Bill Pullman said in his speech before going to fight the aliens in Independence day “We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore.”. We may have them. but lets not focus on those and focus on what we need to do to achieve our common goals. After that we can fight about the other stuff.

I agree about working with her. However, much of the cultural stuff is not “petty” and should not be ignored altogether. Working with someone on a issue does not mean you stop holding them accountable. In fact, it increases the necessity of doing so. @mggbwmn8 once drafted a memorandum of understanding that I think should be agreed upon by both parties when we work with those on the right. Part of that MOU speaks to this issue.
Protecting vulnerable communities is a core value we hold on the left. One of the barriers to working with the right is the fear that they will get thrown under the bus. Those we work with on the right need to understand we will not ignore that value. I’m not saying that you advocating that we do so, just that our language needs to communicate the fact that our core values are just that. Referring to them as petty differences misses the mark, imo.

I just re-read your response to @eagle1 and realized I may have characterized your statement inaccurately. My initial reading gave me the impression that you were downplaying the importance of the core values I mentioned in my previous post. A second reading makes me realize you are not doing so. My apologies. But the MOU I mentioned is a great way to address both of our concerns.

Hi Tonymac52, Thanks for your thoughtful and respectful reply. I’m glad you gave it another read! I think there is a lot of pettiness between both sides we need to get past. But like you said, there are cultural issues that are not petty and are really important. My view is “Okay MTG, lets work together on this healthcare stuff. Once we win, lets see what else we can work on together. BUT, we agree there are areas we deeply disagree on and we will fight each other on those issues, but lets not let those differing opinions get in the way of the common ground we have on these issues”. I also just like to quote that speech from Independence Day a lot. It’s a sick speech.
I think my view is to not worry about purity and if I can work with someone on an issue, lets work together. But then fight about the other issues later. And instead of shaming them for a differing opinion, as we work together, try to win them over to our side on opinions we differ on.
My #1 goal is to actually pass legislation that helps the average American. If we can do that, i think The US will be okay.

The thing I like most about your original post is the statement that she shouldn’t bring up culture stuff, and we shouldn’t either. I agree 100% If, however, she or anyone on the right bring the hateful part of their rhetoric to our discussions, we need to respond to it on the spot, not ignore it to avoid shaming them. That’s why the idea of a MOU is so appealing to me. We can set the ground rules for engagement at the beginning, and get those on the right to agree to them.

Some of her toxic behavior. She hasn’t apologized for the racist, islamophobic and anti-lgbtq things she has said, but at least she’s off to a good start. And it took real guts for her to battle Trump publicly. She even called him a traitor!

Agreed: be careful who you make your HEROES; but the fact remains: you often have to work with many, some of whose ethical viewpoints are at crossends to yours, to accomplish a much more important goal.
The fact is, without MTG and Boebert’s votes on the Discharge Petition, it would not have led to the unraveling of Trump by means of the unredactions.
A couple of other characters to note in this chapter:

Michael Cohen: Have you seen how nervous he is behaving lately? Tara Palmieri also made the same observation. He’s afraid of Trump’s extracurricular criminal activities now being found out as having been known firsthand by him.

Michael Wolff: While I get it’s the job of news outlets to glean what they can from him about Epstein and Trump, the outlets should be making it clear to their viewers/readers that he is a biased source (as Maxwell clearly is!) He has been revealed to having sought to be a spin-doctor for Epstein. The Times and Daily Beast should be reconsidering their chummy interviewing approach with Wolff, and repeatedly giving him a soapbox to push an agenda that serves his interests, and not necessarily those of the victims or Americans who want this Trump nightmare to be over, pronto.
